Role Overview:
The Manufacturing Technician, Casting Finishing is responsible for performing manual finishing operations on metal castings to ensure parts meet established engineering, quality, and production requirements. This position operates hand grinders, belt grinders, and other finishing equipment to remove excess material, deburr, blend, and finish cast components in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, and defined tolerances.
This person is also responsible for visually inspecting castings throughout the finishing process, identifying and escalating defects or nonconforming conditions, maintaining material and lot traceability, and accurately completing required production and quality documentation.
What You’ll Do...
• Operate hand grinders, belt grinders, rotary tools, and other manual finishing equipment to grind, deburr, blend, smooth, and finish metal castings.
• Remove excess material, flash, gates, risers, burrs, and other casting imperfections as required by the applicable process.
• Perform finishing operations in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and other applicable manufacturing requirements.
• Select and use the appropriate grinding wheels, belts, abrasives, and finishing tools based on material and process requirements.
• Exercise care when removing material to maintain required part geometry, dimensions, and surface condition.
• Perform visual inspections of castings before, during, and after finishing operations to identify defects, damage, or other nonconforming conditions.
• Identify and appropriately segregate or escalate suspected nonconforming or scrap material in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain lot, material, and part traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
• Accurately complete required production records, travelers, inspection records, logs, and other manufacturing documentation.
• Handle castings and material in a manner that prevents damage, contamination, or loss of traceability.
• Inspect grinding and finishing equipment prior to use and report damaged, worn, or unsafe equipment or tooling.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures, work instructions, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other team members to resolve manufacturing issues and meet production, quality, and delivery requirements.
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing processes.
• Perform other related manufacturing duties as assigned.
You have...
Education:
• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience.
Experience:
• Previous experience in a foundry, casting, metalworking, aerospace manufacturing, or similar production environment.
• Previous experience performing grinding, deburring, blending, polishing, or metal-finishing operations.
• Experience working from engineering drawings, manufacturing travelers, or detailed work instructions.
• Familiarity with grinding wheels, abrasives, belt grinders, pneumatic tools, and other metal-finishing equipment.
• Experience working within a quality-controlled or traceability-driven manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with basic dimensional inspection tools and techniques.
Skills & Competencies:
• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate hand grinders, belt grinders, and other powered finishing tools.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written work instructions, process specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
• Ability to perform detailed manual work while consistently meeting defined quality requirements.
• Ability to identify visible defects, surface irregularities, and other conditions that may affect part quality.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to work safely with industrial tools and equipment.
• Ability to accurately complete production and quality documentation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
• Strong attention to detail and workmanship.
• Ability to consistently perform repetitive, precision-oriented manual operations.
• Ability to recognize defects and understand when conditions should be escalated for further evaluation.

• Dependability and ability to work in a production environment with established schedules and output expectations.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issues security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to frequently stand and perform manual manufacturing work for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, position, and manipulate parts or materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to frequently use hands and arms to operate grinding and finishing equipment.
• Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions associated with casting-finishing operations.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing or foundry environment that may include exposure to noise, dust, metal particles, vibration, heat, and other typical industrial conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective clothing, safety footwear, respiratory protection, and/or other PPE based on the operation being performed
