Code for Canada

2026 Board Member Search

We're looking for our next Board Treasurer — and yes, "board treasurer" can be exciting when the mission is making government services work better for everyone in Canada.

At Code for Canada, we partner with governments and nonprofits to build digital services that are inclusive, accessible, and effective. Since 2017, we've worked with over 50 partners across the country. Now we need a sharp financial mind to help us keep doing that work sustainably.

You'd be a great fit if you:
- Can read a financial statement without breaking a sweat
- Like asking "but what does this mean for the long term?"

About Code for Canada

Code for Canada is a national non-profit. We work with governments and non-profits to create digital services that are inclusive, accessible, and effective for everyone in Canada. Since 2017, we've worked with over 50 partners nationwide.

Join our Board of Directors as Treasurer

Code for Canada is looking for one new member to join our Board of Directors as Treasurer. We're especially interested in people with hands-on experience in civic tech, building digital services in the public sector, or both.

As a national non-profit, we want our board to reflect the whole country. We welcome candidates from anywhere in Canada.

About the board and responsibilities

Code for Canada's board provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. Our CEO and staff lead day-to-day operations, but the board-staff relationship is a partnership, and active board involvement is both expected and essential. We ask each board member to sit on at least one working group or task force.

General responsibilities

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and management team
  • Guiding the development of Code for Canada's strategic plan
  • Reviewing the outcomes and metrics staff use to evaluate impact, and regularly measuring performance against them

  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the CEO
  • Helping the management team and Board Chair identify and recruit other board members
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments

Board terms and participation

Board members serve two-year terms and can be reappointed for up to two additional terms, for a maximum of six years. The full board meets every two months. The executive committee meets monthly for about one hour, primarily to review financials — the Treasurer plays an active role in these meetings.

  • Financial literacy and the ability to read financial statements
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Integrity and a commitment to ethical financial stewardship
  • The ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
