Software QA Engineer II

CRIO (Clinical Research IO) is a health tech company helping pharma, biotech, research sites, and academic research centers streamline regulatory workflows with one system and a single source of clinical data capture. Our modules allow sites to capture data electronically in real-time, providing data managers and monitors with enhanced transparency, and enabling remote monitoring by sponsors and CROs.

CRIO’s eSource and CTMS system is a leading, modern, enterprise platform built for clinical research sites. Since CRIO’s launch in 2016, CRIO has established the leading brand position in eSource and has won close to 50% of the emerging class of enterprise-grade site networks, many of whom are backed by institutional investors such as VC, PE and corporations. CRIO has achieved the attached metrics, all with little to no serious outbound sales or marketing.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and quality-driven Software QA Engineer II to join our growing Quality Assurance team.  The ideal candidate is a proactive and analytical tester with strong manual testing expertise and a passion for delivering high-quality software in a regulated healthcare environment. This role emphasizes deep functional validation, exploratory testing, and end-to-end quality ownership. You will play a critical role in designing and executing comprehensive test strategies, identifying edge cases, and ensuring product reliability across the software development lifecycle.  The ideal candidate also thrives in an Agile environment, collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, and takes full ownership of validating complex workflows from a user and business perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Test Strategy and Planning: Develop, maintain, and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scenarios with a strong focus on manual validation of complex features and workflows.
  • Functional and End-to-End Testing: Perform thorough manual testing, including functional, integration, and end-to-end validation across all stages of the SDLC (Dev, QA, UAT, Production).
  • Exploratory Testing: Conduct in-depth exploratory testing to uncover edge cases, usability issues, and gaps not covered by predefined test cases.
  • Regression Testing: Own and execute manual regression test suites to ensure stability of existing functionality, with a focus on high-risk and business-critical areas.
  • Backend and Database Validation: Possess knowledge to navigate data and backend processes using SQL queries, ensuring accurate data flow and system behavior.
  • API Testing: Perform manual API testing using tools such as Postman to validate request/response structures, error handling, and data consistency.
  • Defect Management: Identify, document, and track defects with clear, detailed reproduction steps, severity/priority assessments, and expected vs. actual outcomes. Collaborate with developers to drive timely resolution.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, refine acceptance criteria, and ensure test coverage aligns with business needs.
  • Release Validation: Support release activities by executing pre-release, and post-deployment validation testing to ensure production readiness.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance manual testing practices, test coverage, and QA processes. Contribute to documentation and mentor junior QA team members on testing techniques and best practices.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Awareness: Ensure all testing activities and documentation align with regulatory requirements, including data integrity, audit trails, and validation standards in clinical research software.
