Focused on driving innovation and helping our customers define and deliver their own unique vision for the Edge, at any scale, in any market worldwide, for any requirement, we are building tomorrow’s data center infrastructure, today for some of the world’s most demanding Network, Content, and Cloud customers.

EdgeConneX is seeking a technically deep, field-proven commissioning leader to serve as Commissioning Engineer (Cx SME) for EMEA within the Global Design & Engineering (GD&E) organization. The Commissioning Engineer is the regional technical authority for commissioning — accountable for the integrity of commissioning scope, sequencing strategy, readiness criteria, and test execution across a portfolio of assigned campuses, from early design through Integrated Systems Testing (IST), energization, and handover to Operations.

GD&E delivers safe, reliable, and cost-effective data center infrastructure by setting world-class design standards, driving disciplined program execution, and partnering seamlessly with internal teams and an external execution partner. Within GD&E, the Commissioning Lead sits inside the EMEA regional pillar, supported by the Principal Commissioning lead in Technical Strategy & Architecture, who owns the global commissioning methodology and standards. The Commissioning Lead is how that methodology becomes proven, performing systems in the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own commissioning scope definition, sequencing strategy, and readiness criteria across the portfolio of assigned campuses, ensuring commissioning requirements are clearly defined, contractually understood, and executed in accordance with the standards and methodology set by Technical Strategy & Architecture.
  • Serve as the primary commissioning technical interface between GD&E, the site TPM/DM team, the execution partner, Operations, vendors, and third-party commissioning agents (CxA).
  • Hold the technical gate on commissioning readiness — validate that systems are installed, started, and handed over in a test-ready condition before each phase proceeds, and confirm that all readiness criteria are met before a facility is declared Ready for Service (RFS).
  • Identify where site-specific constraints or customer requirements demand a departure from the commissioning standard, and route deviations through the established Technical Strategy & Architecture approval process.
  • Own the technical integrity of commissioning milestones and readiness assessments, even where schedule development is delegated — commissioning dates in the plan must reflect what the systems and test program can actually support.
  • Maintain a forward view of commissioning readiness across assigned campuses, flagging cross-project resource or sequencing conflicts to regional leadership before they become delivery risks.
  • Review and validate commissioning plans, test scripts, and procedures across electrical, mechanical, and controls systems, ensuring alignment with GD&E design standards, project design documents, and customer requirements.
  • Oversee system-level testing through Integrated Systems Testing (IST), including failure mode validation, ensuring every system performs to specification.
  • Support vendor and equipment validation — witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at vendor facilities and confirming that what was validated in the factory is what performs in the field.
  • Provide onsite commissioning leadership during critical phases — startup, functional testing, IST, and energization — with presence concentrated at whichever assigned campus is in an active commissioning window.
  • Monitor commissioning activities for compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards, and stop or escalate testing when conditions or results warrant it.
  • Ensure commissioning documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained to GD&E standards within company systems (e.g., CxAlloy, Compass, or equivalent) throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide clear, timely reporting on commissioning status, risks, and readiness to the site TPM/DM team and regional leadership, aligned to GD&E's stage-gate governance and reporting cadence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline — required.
  • Certifications: PMP strongly preferred; BCxA CCP or ACG CxA valued; CDCP or CDCDP preferred; NETA Level II or higher desired.
Experience
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data center or mission-critical engineering, construction, or commissioning, with proven experience leading commissioning on large-scale, mission-critical data center projects.
  • Demonstrated experience taking hyperscale / Tier III+ facilities through the full commissioning lifecycle — from Cx planning in design through FAT, startup, functional testing, IST, energization, and handover.
  • Experience coordinating with EPC / execution partner field teams and third-party commissioning planners and agents — driving readiness and quality through influence within an integrated site team.
  • Familiarity with commissioning platforms such as CxAlloy, Compass, or equivalent.
  • Deep understanding of mission-critical data center systems: electrical distribution (MV/LV, switchgear, UPS, generators), mechanical systems (cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC, fluid systems), and controls (BMS/EPMS integration).
  • Deep familiarity with commissioning methodology: pre-functional and functional testing, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), failure mode validation, readiness criteria, and performance validation.
  • Working knowledge of construction-driven scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) with the ability to interrogate schedule logic and challenge commissioning durations and dependencies.
  • Clear, concise communication, with the credibility to deliver a "not ready" call and the discipline to back it with data and a recovery path.
  • Comfort operating across multiple concurrent campuses in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where the portfolio is expanding and processes are maturing.
Travel

Significant travel required (50–75%) across assigned campuses in EMEA, including extended onsite presence during startup, functional testing, and IST phases, plus travel to vendor facilities for FAT — concentrated around commissioning windows and occasionally at short notice.
