About egelloC
egelloC is a leading coaching company dedicated to guiding students and families through the college admissions process. Our mission is to empower students with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence needed to secure their dream college acceptances. We take pride in fostering a dynamic, collaborative, and results-driven culture, where every team member plays a crucial role in helping families navigate this important milestone.
About the role
We are looking for a sharp, resourceful Student Success Coach (College Admissions Coach) to lead students toward their top-choice universities. In this vital role, you will be the primary point of contact, providing individualized coaching, ensuring accountability, and implementing strategic plans to help students achieve their top-choice admissions goals. This is a high-level strategy role, not an administrative or copy-editing one. You will be supported by a dedicated Client Success team for logistics and a specialized Essay Editing team for drafting, allowing you to focus entirely on being the strategic architect of each student's journey.
We are looking for more than a 'Common App generalist'. This role requires a strategist who possesses a clear, granular understanding of the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems alongside deep experience with the Common App and the admissions landscape for Top 100 universities. If you can pivot seamlessly between coaching a student on a narrative Ivy League essay and helping them choose the right UC Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) to showcase their technical profile, this is your seat.
What You’ll Own
- Provide individualized coaching and accountability: Serve as the primary point of contact for a caseload of students and their families. Conduct weekly check-ins and monthly meetings to guide students through their academic, extracurricular, and college application milestones.
- Strategic Academic & Profile Planning: Provide expert advice on course selection, major strategy, and building a competitive extracurricular profile over time. You will advise on UC-specific GPA impact and ensure students are strategically positioned for admission to both the UCs and national Top 100 universities.
- Activity Optimization & Packaging: Leverage your tactical mastery to translate student experiences into high-impact descriptions. You will guide students in selecting and quantifying their achievements within the unique constraints of both the Common App and the UC Activities sections.
- Testing & Strategy: Guide families through the nuances of testing timelines (SAT/ACT) and the tactical differences between Test-Optional and Test-Blind environments.
- Strategic Narrative Oversight (PIQ & Essay Approval): You are the 'Editor-in-Chief' of the student’s story. While our dedicated Essay Editing team handles the heavy lifting of drafting and line-editing, you provide the final strategic approval. You ensure every PIQ and personal statement isn't just well-written, but perfectly aligned with the student’s goals and technical profile.
- Strategic Intervention: Serve as the primary driver for a caseload of families. You proactively monitor progress and "strategically intervene" to ensure every milestone is met.
- Expert Parent Liaison: Serve as the "Voice of Truth" for parents. You will proactively lead meetings, provide timely updates, and manage expectations with a mix of empathy and professional authority.
- Collaborative Support: Partner with the Client Success team to ensure a seamless family experience. They handle the scheduling and logistics so you can lead the strategy.
Who Thrives Here
Required:
- 3+ years of College Admissions Coaching.
- UC/CSU System Expertise: Deep knowledge of all 9 UC undergraduate campuses, the CSU system, impacted majors, and varying competition levels.
- Top 100 & Common App Mastery: Sophisticated understanding of the admissions landscape for Top 100 U.S. colleges and universities. You know how to pivot strategies between elite private institutions and out-of-state publics.
- High-Volume Organizational Excellence: You can navigate a busy caseload with precision because you aren't doing it alone. Leveraging our Client Success team for logistics and our Essay Editing team for drafting, you maintain a high-level view of every student’s roadmap, ensuring that strategic quality remains top-tier across your entire caseload.
- Collaborative & Ego-Free: You are a dedicated team player who contributes to our internal knowledge base and thrives in a feedback-heavy environment. You aren't afraid to provide (or receive) direct strategic direction to ensure the best student outcomes.
- Technical Proficiency: You move fast in Slack, Discord, Calendly, Google Drive, and Zoom with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- The "Batteries Included" Mindset: You don't wait for a student to miss a deadline; you spot the plateau and fix it before it becomes a problem.
This Role is NOT For You If...
- You are a "Wait-and-See" Person: If you need a manager to point out a plateau in a student’s progress before you take action, you won't thrive here. We need drivers, not passengers.
- You are a "Lone Wolf": If you prefer to work in a silo and have no interest in contributing to the team’s collective knowledge base or supporting peers during peak seasons, this isn't the right fit.
- You are "Finished" Learning: If you think you already know everything there is to know about admissions and aren't hungry to proactively level up your skills or stay ahead of changing UC/Common App trends, you'll be left behind.
- You Treat the UC/CSU Apps as an Afterthought: If you plan to "copy-paste" Common App strategies into the California system, you won't meet our standards for student success.
- You’re Looking for a "Chill" Remote Job: We move fast, we iterate constantly, and we hold ourselves to a high bar. If you’re looking for a low-accountability role where you can fly under the radar, this isn't it.
How to Apply
To be considered, please submit the following:
- Your resume.
- Your responses to the Application Questionnaire.
- A brief Loom video (under 4 minutes) introducing yourself and answering:
- What is the #1 strategic mistake you see "Common App experts" make when they try to coach a student on their UC PIQs?
- How do you keep a student motivated and on-track when they are struggling to meet their application milestones?
No Loom = No Consideration. A large portion of this role is spent on camera in Zooms or Looms. We’re looking for experts who follow instructions, speak with authority, and present well on camera
