About the role

We are currently recruiting Cooks for our new Early Learning Center, The Barn. The Early Learning Center (ELC) Cook is responsible for preparing and portioning nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and health/safety regulations. This role ensures that food is prepared safely, kitchens are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition, and menus support children’s dietary needs and allergies.


What you'll do

·         Portion and serve meals in an age-appropriate and appealing manner. Wash, chop, measure, and cook ingredients to prepare meals and snacks following established menus.

·         Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and food prep areas.

·         Store food properly and monitor expiration dates to ensure freshness.

·         Follow all food safety regulations, including proper handwashing, temperature checks, and cross-contamination prevention.

·         Assist with dishwashing, cleaning, and general kitchen organization.

·         Communicate effectively with ELC staff about meal service timing and special dietary needs.

·         Adhere to all CACFP and ELC nutrition and food service standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary or nutrition-related training preferred.
  • Qualified applicants for this role must be available early mornings. 7am-3pm. Monday through Friday.
  • Food Handler’s Permit or ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Prior cooking experience in childcare, education, nonprofit, or institutional settings preferred.
  • Understanding of CACFP guidelines and USDA meal pattern requirements a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to the mission of strengthening families and serving children with excellence and compassion.
