Gamer's Choice

Senior Content Strategist

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site, Exempt

Gamer’s Choice is a team of passionate gamers, creators, and innovators based in Queens, New York. What began as a small local shop has grown into one of the leading destinations for Trading Card Game players and collectors around the world. We’re driven by a shared love for gaming and community, offering both an engaging online experience and a vibrant in-store atmosphere. Our mission is to be the ultimate home for fans to connect, compete, and celebrate the games they love. While Yu-Gi-Oh! has always been our foundation, we’re expanding into exciting new titles like Pokémon, One Piece, Riftbound, and Disney Lorcana. Our Long Island City store serves as the heart of our community, hosting tournaments, events, and gatherings that bring players together both in person and online.

Location: 34-09 Queens Blvd, Long Island City, NY

Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (extended hours as required based on business needs, as described below, such as during peak seasons/product or store launches).

Reports to: Chief of Staff

Base Salary: $110,000 - $150,000 per annum

The Content Strategist owns Gamer's Choice's organic content strategy end-to-end, architecting how the brand shows up across social, email, and community channels, and building the systems, workflows, and team structure to scale it. This is a strategic, builder-oriented role for someone who has grown an organic content engine from the ground up, not simply maintained or scaled an existing one. You will set direction and standards for the Marketing Coordinator (and additional hires as the function grows) to execute against your strategy and AI-assisted workflows.

The Senior Content Strategist is expected to work a baseline of five days per week and extended hours as needed, especially during peak volume, launches, and operational transitions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve organic content strategy across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging channels, defining content pillars, brand voice, and channel-specific playbooks.
  • Build an organic content machine, designed around producing viral content.
  • Architect and own email and lifecycle marketing strategy (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or similar), including segmentation, automation flows, and campaign calendar.
  • Design and lead the content production workflow, including AI-assisted tools, directing the Marketing Coordinator and any future hires rather than personally producing daily content.
  • Manage and grow our Discord community, engaging with customers who are looking for an interactive community and to engage with our brand’s services.
  • Build measurement frameworks connecting content and email performance to audience growth and revenue.
  • Partner with leadership on creator partnerships, product drops, and in-store event storytelling, translating brand moments into content strategy.
  • Represent content strategy in retail launch planning and other cross-functional initiatives.

Within the first 30 days, the Content Marketing Manager is expected to:

  • Complete a full audit of existing content, social channels, and email flows, identifying structural gaps, not just quick wins.
  • Deliver a documented content strategy and 6–12 month roadmap, including channel-specific goals.
  • Stand up or formalize a content workflow with the Marketing Coordinator, including AI-assisted production.
  • Launch or optimize foundational email/lifecycle campaigns with clear before-and-after benchmarks.
  • Contribute strategic direction, not just creative assets, to the retail launch.

How you will be measured

  • Growth in owned organic audience and engagement against strategy-defined targets.
  • Email program performance and revenue contribution.
  • Maturity and efficiency of the content workflow and team you build.
  • Evidence of strategic judgment, prioritization, and channel development.

Why this role matters

Content is the heartbeat of Gamer's Choice. This role ensures our organic presence is built on a durable strategy, not just daily output, so our audience growth, email revenue, and brand excitement compound over time. By owning workflow design with the Marketing Coordinator and leveraging AI tools, the Content Strategist keeps our content engine fast, efficient, and built to scale.

Qualifications

  • 5 - 8+ years in content marketing, social strategy, or brand content, with direct experience building an organic content program from the ground up, not only operating or scaling an existing one.
  • Experience developing and executing viral and trending content strategies across social media, identifying cultural moments and platform trends to drive audience growth and engagement.
  • A track record designing content strategy and systems, not solely producing content personally.
  • Experience managing or mentoring content producers or coordinators.
  • Deep fluency in organic platform mechanics and algorithms across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Experience with email/lifecycle marketing platforms (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or similar) at a strategic level, and experience utilizing AI tools/tech to enhance content strategy and implementation.
  • Comfortable directing video/content production; hands-on filming and editing ability is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Nice to have: experience in collectibles, gaming, or creator partnerships; familiarity with TCG culture.

Benefits

  • Health Insurance
  • Dental & Vision Coverage
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401k
  • Employee Discounts
  • Gym Membership Reimbursements
