About the role

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the ARC Caseworker will provide direct services for hard to serve adults who are incarcerated and/or on probation orders within the community.


What you'll do

Caseworker duties include the following responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing life skills development for clients
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavioral support for clients involved in the justice system
  • Assist in case management and support for clients
  • Provide institutional support, work in partnership with Correctional Staff within the Correctional Facilities
  • Provide effective programming for clients
  • Role model positive behavior and encourage/support clients to practice self-help and non- violent problem-solving skills daily
  • Complete and maintain documentation to program standards.
  • Provide and connect clients with services that are risk reductive, integrated, and client oriented.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of job
  • Perform other related duties as assigned/needed

Knowledge, Skills and Assets:

  • Working knowledge of the Mission, Vision and Values of the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Working knowledge of the characteristics of disadvantaged persons.
  • Working knowledge of Restorative Justice and Harm Reduction practices.
  • Understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Exceptional writing and case management skills.
  • Strong verbal skills and the ability to communicate professionally.
  • Resourceful, flexible, and well organized.

  • Ability to make sound, timely, and accurate judgment while navigating crisis.

  • Must maintain a positive relationship with clients, other staff, businesses, and government agencies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare

Practical Experience:

  • Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system.
  • Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.

Other:

  • First Aid, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset.
  • Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles.
  • Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.

Capability:

  • Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Requires flexibility and should be able to work varying shifts
