Jo-Kell

Engineering Intern

About the role

Jo-Kell is seeking an Electrical Panel Technician Intern to join our electrical panel shop team in Pompano Beach.

This is a hands-on technical internship designed for a student or early-career individual interested in electrical technology, engineering technology, industrial systems, or a related technical field.

You will gain practical experience working with custom electrical control panels alongside our engineering and production teams. This internship provides the opportunity to develop real-world skills in electrical assembly, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and interpreting technical drawings.

We are looking for someone with strong mechanical or electrical aptitude, attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and an interest in applying technical concepts in a hands-on environment.

What you'll learn and do

Depending on your experience, demonstrated capabilities, learning progress, and the work available during your internship, you may have the opportunity to gain experience in some or all of the following areas.

  • Assist with the assembly and wiring of custom electrical control panels
  • Learn to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
  • Perform point-to-point wiring, component installation, and electrical terminations with appropriate guidance
  • Assist with panel layout, assembly, testing, and quality inspections
  • Develop basic troubleshooting skills for wiring, component, and assembly issues
  • Learn how completed assemblies are verified against engineering drawings and specifications
  • Work with engineering and production team members to understand how designs move from drawings to finished products
  • Safely and effectively use common hand and power tools
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and productive work area
  • Support other engineering and panel shop activities as needed

Qualifications

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are currently pursuing or recently completed technical education in electrical technology, engineering technology, industrial maintenance, or a related field
  • Have a basic understanding of electrical principles
  • Have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and enjoy working with your hands
  • Are interested in learning to read and work from electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Are comfortable using, or willing to learn to use, common hand and power tools
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work
  • Are curious, dependable, and receptive to instruction and feedback
  • Can follow instructions while becoming increasingly independent as your skills develop
  • Work effectively with engineers, technicians, and other team members

Previous hands-on experience through coursework, labs, technical school, military training, personal projects, robotics, electronics, automotive work, or a related trade is beneficial but not required.

What You Can Expect

This is a hands-on technical internship, not a job-shadowing opportunity. You will gain exposure to custom engineered products, electrical components, schematics, panel construction, testing, troubleshooting, and real-world engineering and production processes.

The internship is designed to progressively develop your technical capabilities. As your knowledge and demonstrated skills increase, you may be given greater responsibility and independence.

Pay: $18/hour

Internship Duration: 4 to 12 weeks, based on performance, learning progress, business needs, and overall fit with the team. The initial internship period is four weeks and may be extended in four-week increments for up to 12 weeks.

Minimum Commitment: Interns must be available to complete at least 96 hours during each four-week period, approximately 24 hours per week.

Schedule: Internship hours will generally be scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with flexibility to accommodate school schedules when possible.
