About Leo Berwick
Leo Berwick is an innovative mergers and acquisitions consulting firm. We are composed of experienced advisors from global law and accounting firms who add value to transactions as trusted partners throughout the deal life cycle. At Leo Berwick, we hire the best and the brightest. Our teams deliver a dedicated and customized service to every client.
Within Leo Berwick, our technology, data, and AI team works with infrastructure and private equity clients, and private market investors and their portfolio companies, across the full deal lifecycle, from M&A services to AI strategy and execution. We believe technology can have an outsized impact on firm performance and enterprise value.
As a growth-stage firm, we move quickly, work collaboratively, and value people who take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Our culture is grounded in high performance, continuous learning, and the shared ambition to build something exceptional, together.
About the Role:
Leo Berwick is hiring a Senior Leader (Managing Director or Partner) to build and scale our power, utilities, and renewables practice, one of our core sectors. This is a senior, client-facing leadership role for someone with deep industry expertise in power, utilities, or renewables, paired with technology and/or data depth. You will lead technology diligence and data and AI value creation initiatives for PE sponsors and infrastructure funds investing in the energy and infrastructure space.
We’re looking for someone with 10–15+ years of experience, built at a technology consultancy, a boutique advisory firm, or as an operator in industry. You should be ready to build and sell a practice, not just deliver within one. Experience in technology consulting and M&A is an asset, but sector credibility and technical depth come first.
In this leadership role, you will have defined responsibilities and a focus area, and you will also be part of the leadership team, exposed to all aspects of building and growing the business and contributing well beyond your own practice.
Why Join Us:
What you'll do
Practice Leadership & Growth
• Sector Practice Building: Lead the build-out of Leo Berwick’s power, utilities and renewables technology advisory practice, defining our point of view, offerings, and go-to-market approach for the sector.
• Business Development: Originate and close new engagements with PE sponsors, infrastructure funds, and corporate acquirers active in power, utilities, and renewables. Bring the capability to build a book of business, recognizing any portable relationships remain subject to prior firm non-compete and non-solicit obligations.
• Internal Enablement: Train and mentor staff on how to run technology diligence in the sector — the operational, regulatory, and technology nuances specific to power and utilities that don’t show up in a generalist diligence approach.
Full-Lifecycle Deal Advisory
• Diligence & Risk Assessment: Lead buy-side and sell-side technology diligence workstreams to evaluate target technology environments, architecture, and organizational readiness ahead of a transaction.
• Carve-Out & Separation: Own technology separation planning and execution for carve-out transactions, including TSA scope definition, stranded cost management, and TSA exit strategy.
• Integration: Lead post-merger technology integration planning and execution, ensuring synergy realization and business continuity through Day 1 and beyond.
Client & Stakeholder Management
• Executive Relationships: Serve as the primary technology advisor to portfolio company C-suite executives (CIO, CTO, CDO) and PE deal teams throughout the transaction lifecycle.
• Engagement Leadership: Own engagement delivery end-to-end, managing cross-functional teams and ensuring quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
Firm Leadership & Collaboration
• Leadership Breadth: As part of the leadership team, contribute to all aspects of building and growing the business, and collaborate across practices and service lines (including data, AI and cyber engagements beyond your sector focus) as your expertise allows.
What We're Looking For:
In order of priority:
1. Sector Depth
• Power, Utilities & Renewables Expertise: Direct, hands-on experience serving clients in renewables, power generation, or utilities — not adjacent sectors like oil & gas or industrial products, and not corporate functions (e.g., finance) within a utility. This is the most important qualification for this role.
2. Technology & Data Depth
• Technical Depth: At Leo Berwick, leaders are in the architecture reviews, not just the readouts. On a typical engagement that means personally assessing a target’s architecture, reviewing its OT and IT environments (SCADA, EMS/DMS, AMI, GIS, asset and work management, ERP), interviewing IT and operations leadership, and writing the findings the deal team relies on.
• Active Technology Practitioner: You have built software or data solutions in your career (applications, data pipelines, analytics models, or integrations) and remain capable of getting into a build if an engagement calls for it.
• Data & AI Depth: Deep expertise in data and AI is essential, as it is what clients value most for diligence and value creation. This includes experience designing and executing AI use cases and conducting AI impact assessments.
• Cybersecurity & Compliance: Experience assessing cybersecurity and compliance risk, particularly for asset-heavy targets, is a decided asset when paired with your data and AI depth.
3. Seniority & Leadership
• Experience Level: You bring 10–15+ years of relevant experience in a leadership role.
• Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to originate and grow business, not solely execute within an existing book of work.
• Team & Client Leadership: Experience leading cross-functional, often distributed teams, and building trust with senior executives and investment professionals.
Considered an Asset
• Technology M&A & Consulting Experience: A track record of buy-side, sell-side, carve-out, separation, or integration work in a deal context, as an advisor or as an operator inside an M&A process.
• PE or Fund-Facing Experience: Experience advising private equity firms, infrastructure funds, or corporate acquirers is strongly preferred.
Location
• This is a remote-first role based anywhere in North America. Travel is required across North America. Strong sector alignment is prioritized over location.
