Liftoff Campaigns, LLC

Communications Strategist

Liftoff Campaigns is seeking a talented communications strategist to develop compelling content and help manage the online presence of our candidates, organizations, and causes.

Liftoff Campaigns is a mission-driven digital and communications agency. Our clients are statewide and local Democratic political campaigns, PACs, advocates, nonprofits, and changemaking companies.

Liftoff was awarded Digital Agency of the Year at the 2025 Reed Awards. Our communications team, led by veterans of some of the largest and most consequential campaigns in politics, was recognized as a finalist for Strategic Communications Team of the Year.

Our ideal candidate is a strong writer with sharp political instincts, a creative eye, and an understanding of what makes people stop scrolling. You should be comfortable translating complex issues into engaging content, capturing a client’s voice, and taking an idea from concept through publication. This role combines content creation, day-to-day account management, and opportunities to help shape clients’ digital strategies.

Liftoff is an equal opportunity employer and all applicants will be considered. We work to center our values and those of our clients in all aspects of our work, so our culture, clientele, policies, and practices are reflective and affirming of people -- inclusive of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, immigration status, citizenship status, and so much more. We strongly encourage folks from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day communications strategy and execution for a portfolio of clients, working closely with Liftoff’s Vice President of Communications to set priorities and deliver results.
  • Serve as a primary client contact and trusted strategic advisor to candidates, organizational leaders, and senior staff.
  • Develop and drive communications plans that shape narratives, advance clients’ goals, and respond to changing political and media environments.
  • Lead preparation for media interviews, debates, speeches, and other high-stakes public appearances, providing candid feedback and actionable guidance to principals.
  • Write and edit compelling press releases, talking points, op-eds, speeches, and other communications materials, maintaining a high standard for accuracy, clarity, and voice.
  • Build and maintain relationships with reporters, proactively pitch stories, and secure coverage that advances clients’ strategic priorities.
  • Manage media engagements from initial outreach through preparation and follow-up.
  • Guide clients through rapid response and sensitive communications challenges, exercising sound judgment under pressure and identifying when to escalate decisions.
  • Develop social and nontraditional media strategies that expand clients’ reach and reinforce their broader communications goals.
  • Direct press events, including press conferences, media roundtables, and campaign announcements.
  • Provide strategic direction and support to clients’ internal communications staff, helping translate priorities into clear plans and strong execution.
  • Anticipate emerging issues and media opportunities, using coverage and political developments to refine strategy.
  • Collaborate with Liftoff’s creative and digital teams to integrate earned media, digital fundraising, and persuasion efforts.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A commitment to electing Democrats and advancing good causes.
  • Typically 5–8 years of experience in political or advocacy communications, including experience as a communications director, press secretary, senior agency strategist, or in a comparable role with significant strategic responsibility.
  • Experience independently managing communications programs and advising candidates, principals, or senior organizational leaders.
  • A track record of developing communications strategies that produce meaningful results, including successfully pitching and shaping media coverage.
  • Experience preparing principals for interviews, debates, and other high-stakes public engagements.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into persuasive messaging and capture a principal’s voice.
  • Strong political instincts and the confidence to make recommendations, offer candid counsel, and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Exceptional organization and follow-through, with experience managing multiple accounts or workstreams and competing deadlines.
  • An understanding of how earned media, social media, and nontraditional platforms work together to reach audiences.
  • A collaborative approach, a high degree of ownership, and a willingness to work beyond the 9–5 when client needs require it.
