Position Overview
The Training & Development Manager is responsible for leading Mainstreet’s Training and Development Department and enhancing employee knowledge, skills, performance, and productivity across the Credit Union. This position assesses organizational learning and development needs, works alongside the CHRO to develop strategic training initiatives, and implements effective learning solutions that support employee growth, organizational performance, and business objectives.
As the manager of the Training & Development Department, this position provides direction, coaching, and support to departmental team members, partners with the CHRO to establish departmental goals and manage resources, as well as promote continuous improvement in learning processes and programs. The manager ensures the department delivers high-quality training that supports onboarding, regulatory compliance, professional development, leadership development, service excellence, and organizational change initiatives.
This role designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates training programs using an instructional design approach that includes needs assessment, program design, content development, implementation, and measurement of training effectiveness. The Training & Development Manager also oversees the administration and optimization of the Credit Union's Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring learning content is current, accessible, and aligned with organizational priorities.
Working with minimal supervision, this position partners closely with executive leadership, managers, subject matter experts, and employees to identify performance gaps, support change initiatives, and build organizational capability. Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, strategic thinking, effective communication, and the ability to influence learning and performance outcomes across all levels of the organization.
Major Responsibilities
1. Develops and implements engaging training curriculum tailored to Mainstreet’s operations and culture.
2. Identifies, recommends and assesses future and current training needs through job analysis, career paths, annual performance appraisals and consultation with management.
3. Evaluates and develops effective training materials to include job aids, curriculum and tests.
4. Works as a liaison with management to identify and document process and procedures; ensures relative documents are updated and training curriculum is created and implemented accordingly.
5. Manages the LMS to ensure system and content effectiveness.
6. Facilitates and supports MainFocus Sales and Service Strategy training initiatives.
7. Delivers in-person and virtual training sessions to new and existing employees.
8. Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results.
9. Modifies training programs and content as needed.
10. Conducts annual training and development needs assessment.
11. Works effectively as a team member with other members of management and Credit Union staff.
12. Participates in continuing education to stay fluent and up-to-date with the requirements of this position in the form of approved webinars and external training opportunities and completion of certification programs as relative.
13. Proactively works with the SVP CHRO in establishing and meeting department goals and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and/or combination of education and experience including:
o Minimum three years’ experience as a trainer/facilitator/teacher required
o Minimum three years’ experience leading a training department required
· Minimum of three years’ experience with learning content development tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate 360, or Rise, Storyline, Canva, Visio, etc.).
· Minimum of three years’ experience administering a learning management system.
· Proficient in learning theories and instructional design models, and the ability to apply them in content design and development.
· Demonstrated history of developing and executing training and leadership programs
· Successfully achieve certification as CCUFC, and Master Trainer of MainFocus Sales and Service within 9 months of hire (on the job certification provided).
· Thorough knowledge of banking procedures and regulations as applied to credit unions.
· Effective communication, facilitation and consultation skills and ability to positively influence others.
· Success in coaching, mentoring, and helping others succeed.
· Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
· Proficient to advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and ability to quickly learn additional computer software systems such as Meridian Link, Symitar or other credit union specific platforms.
· Ability to provide learning instructions to large groups of employees via in-person and electronic methods
