Matter Health

VP,Medical Affairs & Clinical Excellence

About Matter Health

Matter Health is redefining how care reaches older adults living in public housing. We bring high-quality primary and preventive care directly to where people live by building trusted relationships, removing barriers to access, and ensuring that where someone lives never determines the care they receive.

What sets us apart is our people. We are a team driven by purpose, showing up every day with urgency, empathy, and a commitment to doing what's right for the communities we serve. We're growing quickly and we need someone to own the process that brings the right people into this mission.

Role Description

The VP of Medical Affairs & Clinical Excellence is Matter Health's senior physician executive for clinical governance, practice standards, and clinical integrity. The CMO sets the clinical vision and this VP makes it legally structured, educationally equipped, and operationally wired to deliver across every state. At current scale this includes direct ownership of Program Integrity and Clinical Integrity functions. This role sits in a formal dyad with the VP of Operational Excellence, together owning the clinical-operational performance loop between clinical strategy and field execution.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Governance & Clinical Oversight

  • Serve as the senior physician leader responsible for medical governance and clinical decision-making authority across the Medical Practices
  • Establish and maintain a CPOM-compliant, regulator-ready physician governance structure built to withstand scrutiny from payers, state regulators, and federal oversight bodies
  • Own peer review, clinical escalation, and medical decision oversight processes.
  • Serve as the senior clinical escalation point for complex provider, quality, or patient safety issues across the enterprise

Clinical Standards & Provider Development

  • Own the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of clinical practice standards, protocols, and guidelines across all markets and care settings
  • Lead clinical remediation, coaching, and readiness efforts where gaps in quality, documentation, or practice are identified
  • Own the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the Burden of Illness training and provider coaching program across all markets
  • Ensure APPs demonstrate strong clinical judgment, documentation discipline, and risk awareness aligned with value-based care requirements

Program & Clinical Integrity

  • Directly own Program Integrity and Clinical Integrity at current operating scale, ensuring accurate, complete, and defensible clinical documentation and audit readiness
  • Oversee chart audit programs focused on documentation accuracy and clinical integrity including methodology, findings review, and remediation strategies
  • Partner with the Director of Quality Program Management to ensure quality findings are clinically interpreted and operationalized through provider education and remediation

Compliance & Regulatory

  • Ensure clinical policies and practices meet all applicable federal, state, and payer requirements across every market
  • Partner with Compliance and Legal on audit readiness, corrective action plans, and ongoing monitoring

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • MD required — active, unrestricted licensure; non-negotiable for CPOM compliance and physician governance authority.
  • Demonstrated experience in physician leadership, medical governance, and provider oversight in a distributed care model
  • Experience supervising Medical Directors and Advanced Practice Providers across multiple markets or geographies
  • Strong background in clinical education, Burden of Illness or HCC documentation training, and provider coaching
  • Experience in a value-based care environment — Medicare Advantage, D-SNP, or equivalent
  • CPOM compliance experience in a multi-state distributed care model strongly preferred
  • Authorization to work in the United States

What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you will have a CPOM-compliant governance structure in place and audit-ready, Burden of Illness training deployed across all markets with measurable improvement in documentation quality, Program Integrity and Clinical Integrity functions operating reliably, and the clinical-operational dyad with VP Operational Excellence functioning with clear shared accountability.

Why Matter Health

We believe that where someone lives should never determine the care they receive. As the senior physician executive for clinical governance, the standards you set will shape how care is delivered to older adults who have historically been the most underserved by traditional healthcare. That's not a tagline. That's the work.

Our team shows up with urgency, empathy, and a deep sense of accountability to each other and to the communities we serve. If that resonates with you, we'd love to talk.

Total Healthcare. Where you live.
