Position Summary

The Group Sales Manager position is responsible for identifying, targeting, and cultivating the ideal clientele for the success of Meadowood Napa Valley. This role will be responsible to solicit and generate business that enables the hotel to meet and/or exceed revenue goals in Meadowood accommodations and fuel revenues to Meadowood Spa, food & beverage venues, and Southbridge Napa Valley. This individual will have revenue goals and will be accountable to meet budgeted revenue targets.

 

Responsibilities

Extensive knowledge of the luxury hospitality market will be required to inform sales outreach and will guide the individual’s promotion of product attributes, lauded brand positioning, luxury consumer desires, and financial feasibility.

 

This individual must be a charismatic team player with proven sales acumen as well as an agile and dynamic viewpoint to ensure objectives toward account and client development are achieved. Group Sales Manager will work in alignment with ownership vision towards target market clientele and strategy in terms of positioning and branding.

 

This position will contribute to group production from social and corporate segments, predominantly focused on the West Coast and Texas, and booking groups that provide shoulder or need period base business.

 

The role of this on-property Group Sales Manager is to develop new business through outside sales calls, account entertainment, site inspections, trade shows, community events and industry meetings. There is a significant volume of communication in this role, including telephone, text, email and written letters and contracts.

 

This Manager level position works in cooperation with other hotel departments to insure seamless service to each group and guest.

 

This individual will develop and maintain knowledge of market trends, industry competition and customers. The successful candidate will have at least three years of Sales Manager experience in a high-end luxury hotel setting. Bachelor's degree desired. Exceptional professional references and a track record of meeting or exceeding booking goals is required; as well as exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, computer and Internet research capability.

 

Knowledge of all hotel departments and functions and ability to resolve customer concerns are essential. This role is guest and client facing, and as a leader, this Group Sales Manager role may be asked to perform operation duties, such as serve as Manager on Duty, assist with guest needs and planning, and support the leadership team colleagues.

 

The ability to forecast, establish and meet defined goals, as well as budgetary analysis capabilities are required.


 Essential Functions

Average percent of time:

  • 60%     Solicit new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication.
  •  20%     Prepare and execute client and internal correspondences such as contracts, itineraries, bookings and internal reports and file maintenance.
  •  5%       Participate in operational and sales and marketing meetings, as well as training and development             programs as required.
  •  5%       Work in collaboration with other departments within the hotel to provide quality service to

customers.

  •  5%       Attend trade shows, community events and industry meetings.
  •  5%       Develop/maintain knowledge of market trends, competition, and customers.

 

Supportive Functions

In addition to performance of the above essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the requirements of the property.

  • Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.
  • Participate as team player with all departments.
  • Assist with reports and/or competition data collection.

 

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, accounting programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity of the property management system, V1, is desired.
  • Math skills, as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required.

Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to five (5) hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. This may include traveling to and from meetings. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task. 
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, photocopiers, and other office equipment as needed.

 

Qualification Standards

Education

High school or equivalent education required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

 

Experience

Three (3) years of Sales Manager level sales experience at a luxury hotel or resort.

Compensation:

The rate for this position is $85,000 - $95,000 annual salary, plus incentive plan.

  • This is the rate Meadowood Napa Valley reasonably expects to pay. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, and other job-related qualifications.
