We are seeking a Sr. Director of Technology to serve as the Enterprise Design Authority and Senior Technical leader for the Innovation & Technology organization.

In this critical role, you will oversee the Architecture and Engineering Enablement pillars, providing strategic direction for application design, integration strategy, data architecture, infrastructure, security, DevOps, and engineering standards. The Sr Director of Technology is the most senior technical role in I&T, reporting directly to the VP of Innovation & Technology. This leader manages both onshore architects and dedicated technical resources and serves as the primary technical interface with vendor’s Sr Delivery Lead. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-moving environment. We value leaders who lead from the front - setting direction while staying close to the details. You’ll build frameworks, coach teams, and contribute directly alongside the people you lead.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Enterprise Design Authority: Own the enterprise architecture strategy across application, integration, data, infrastructure, and security domains. Establish and enforce architecture standards, patterns, and technology decisions across all value streams.
  • Architecture Oversight: Lead the architecture review process through a tiered model - domain architects handle day-to-day reviews while you focus on significant design decisions, new technology introductions, and cross-domain strategy.
  • Engineering Enablement: Oversee the Director of Engineering Enablement and the engineering functions including Principal Engineers, Tech Leads, DevOps/Platform, SRE/Observability, and UX. Set engineering standards and ensure consistent execution across all streams.
  • Vendor Technical Partnership: Serve as the primary technical counterpart to vendor’s Sr Delivery Lead. Ensure dedicated resource model resources meet quality and performance expectations. Manage architecture resources from both strategic delivery partners through a unified review board.
  • Microservice Strategy: Drive the architecture redesign and microservice decomposition strategy. Define handoff standards for new microservices entering production. Ensure every service is designed for A/B failover
  • Institutional Knowledge: Build and retain deep system knowledge within the architecture and engineering teams. Reduce single-points-of-failure through documentation, cross-training, and knowledge-sharing practices.
  • DR & Infrastructure Strategy: Own the long-term infrastructure diversification strategy. Ensure disaster recovery capabilities meet the RTO business requirement.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years in software engineering or architecture roles, with 3+ years in a technical leadership position.
  • Proven track record of leading enterprise architecture for complex, multi-system environments.
  • Experience managing both onshore and distributed technical teams in a dedicated resource model or strategic partnership model.
  • Deep expertise in application architecture, API/integration design, data architecture, and cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred).
  • Experience with microservice architecture, event-driven design, and monolith decomposition strategies.
  • Strong understanding of insurance or financial services technology (rating engines, policy administration, claims, billing).
  • Experience establishing architecture review boards, ADR processes, and design governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical credibility.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate complex technical concepts for executive audiences.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, SRE, and observability is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated player/coach leadership style - you set the strategy AND roll up your sleeves to execute. You’re comfortable building the first version of a process, template, or deliverable yourself rather than waiting for your team to be in place.
