Junior Fixed Income Analyst

Job Summary:

The Analyst supports fixed income credit research and surveillance of assigned industry sectors working closely with portfolio managers.  In this role the analyst supports the separate account portfolio management team and further contributes to the broader risk management function. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support the portfolio management team’s implementation of credit exposure into separately managed accounts.  Conduct quantitative and fundamental analysis and relevant research to support the research process.   
  • Support portfolio managers and investment committee by performing quantitative/qualitative analyses, ratings assignments and reviews, relative value assessments, and providing appropriate profile updates and changes.
  • Assist with written reports on earnings releases/other impactful updates and communicate findings and insights to the investment team for its inclusion in portfolio strategy and positioning.
  • Ongoing monitoring of separately managed account exposures.  Utilize various financial news and data sources, investment industry research and publications, and regulatory releases to analyze sector/credit trends. 
  • Maintain and support financial models, evaluate sector statistics, and provide peer analysis to support recommendations and anticipate potential changes to quality profiles. 
  • Support internal models and the methodology for systems utilized by the team in the credit research process. Identify opportunities for improved risk management across our disciplines.
  • Proven quant skills.  Prepare and develop reports to support the Portfolio Management Team and client reporting as needed or to be used as decision support for executive and client facing meetings. 
  • Collaborate and provide backup support to the Quantitative and Risk Analyst functions as needed
  • Develop proficiency with key research and portfolio management tools, including Bloomberg, Clearwater Analytics, S&P, PTMA databases

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the security types held across SMA portfolios, including fixed income instruments such as corporate bonds, treasuries, agency mortgages, CMBS, CMOs, municipal bonds, and preferreds.
  • Solid understanding of fixed income and equity trade settlement, custody operations, and corporate actions processing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to research and resolve data discrepancies independently, and to escalate matters requiring senior review in a timely, well-documented manner.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, timely notification to Portfolio Managers and team members.
  • Demonstrates effective collaboration across a multi-disciplinary team environment, including Middle Office, Settlements, Sales, Portfolio Management, and Onboarding and Offboarding.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to shifting business needs
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to think both conceptually and at the transaction level.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data validation, and reconciliation workflows across large data sets; experience with Python or other tools for large-scale data analysis is a plus.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or a related field with a preference for progress toward CFA and/or MBA
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the investment management or investment banking industry as an entry level fixed income trader or analyst
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time. Lift up to 15 lbs.
