Head of Strategic Finance

About Origin

Origin is building the AI-native wealth management platform that democratizes sophisticated financial services — combining money management, personalized AI-grounded advice, and financial products in a single intelligent system. We're a Series B company founded by repeat entrepreneurs, backed by Founders Fund, Felicis, and General Catalyst. We've reached profitability and are expanding from our core personal-finance product into banking, high-yield savings, and mortgage & insurance referrals — while growing 100%+ year over year.

About the Role

We're hiring our first dedicated Head of Strategic Finance to own the financial engine behind that expansion — the model, the metrics, the money decisions, and the commercial deals behind every new product and partnership. You'll report to the CEO, work daily with the Executive Team, and lead our Analytics/BI team, Fractional CFO, and Controller.

This is a builder's seat, not an inherited function. You'll be the connective tissue between finance, data, and product at a newly profitable fintech scaling at startup speed — and the mandate is designed to grow with the company.

What You'll Own

  • The numbers. Build and run the company P&L, forecasting, and long-range growth models for a business growing 100%+ YoY. Own the annual operating plan, monthly close-to-forecast variance analysis, and board/investor reporting.
  • Unit economics & product-finance. Be in the details of every product and experience — LTV, CAC, LTV:CAC, ARPU, contribution margin, payback, cohort retention. Surface the correlations and causations that lift growth and translate them into product and pricing opportunities.
  • Commercial & vendor. Lead RFP, procurement, contract negotiation, and ongoing vendor/partner management for every new service and partnership — sponsor/BaaS banks, HYSA, mortgage & insurance referral partners, and key vendors. You'll negotiate the economics, not just the paperwork.
  • The finance & analytics org. Lead and develop Analytics/BI, the Fractional CFO, and the Controller. Deliver clean books, reliable BI, and a single source of truth for decision-making. (Data platform/infrastructure sits with the CTO org; you'll partner closely across that line.)
  • Strategic partnership. Partner with the CEO and executives on capital efficiency, resource allocation, new-product business cases, and capital strategy for the next phase.

What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)

  • A trusted, single-source financial model and metrics layer the exec team runs the business on
  • Per-product unit-economics visibility that has directly informed at least one growth or margin decision
  • A repeatable RFP/procurement/vendor process, with materially improved terms on at least one major partnership
  • A high-functioning finance + analytics team with clean, reliable reporting

How You Work

  • Hands-on, every day. You build the model yourself — you don't commission it.
  • Founder speed. You thrive in ambiguity, thin support, and 100%+ YoY change.
  • Low ego, high ownership. Peer-partner to the CEO, product and marketing leaders; you translate finance into tactical decisions, not reports.
  • Strong written communication. Board materials, decision docs, and negotiation memos that stand on their own.

This role is explicitly not for "hand-off executives" who direct from altitude or career big-company FP&A operators who've never built from scratch.

What We're Looking For

  • 8–15+ years combining a foundation in investment banking / PE / growth equity / top-tier consulting with operating strategic finance / FP&A / BizOps at a high-growth (100%+ YoY) consumer fintech — ideally through a Series B→C/D scaling and a path-to-profitability inflection
  • You've personally built the financial model (not maintained a big-company one) and owned unit economics for a subscription and/or transaction/interchange business
  • Deep fluency in fintech/PFM & neobank unit economics — LTV:CAC (≥3:1), CAC payback (<12 mo), ARPU, contribution margin, cohort analysis, interchange/take-rate and partner-bank economics
  • Data-native — fluent in SQL/warehouse workflows; able to run and level up an analytics team, not just consume dashboards
  • Commercial/deal chops — you've led RFP → procurement → negotiation and can quantify the economics you captured

Nice to Have

  • Operated through a new-product launch on top of a core subscription business (banking, HYSA, lending, or referral marketplaces)
  • Experience partnering with (or managing) a data/analytics org through a finance-data integration
  • Exposure to AI-augmented finance workflows and modern data tooling

What's Not Included

This role is not a fit for candidates seeking a delegative, oversight-only position, those without hands-on modeling depth, or that never led a business and product decisions beyond financial accounting and BS/P&L management.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
