Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and leadership team, you'll play a critical role in ensuring Ve'ahavta remains financially strong, operationally effective, and strategically positioned for continued growth and impact.


You'll oversee finance, operations, facilities, technology, data governance, compliance, and risk management while providing the analysis and decision support that helps leadership navigate opportunities and challenges with confidence.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is ideal for an experienced finance and operations leader who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You'll oversee the organization's finance function while leading operational systems, facilities, technology, compliance, and business process improvement.


Success in this role will come from your ability to transform financial and operational information into meaningful insight, build strong partnerships across departments, and continuously improve the systems and processes that support organizational effectiveness.

What Success Looks Like in Your First 12 Months

By the end of your first year, you'll have:

• Developed meaningful financial and operational dashboards that provide leaders across the organization with timely, actionable information for decision-making. 
• Strengthened budgeting, forecasting, and departmental performance reporting processes, creating greater accountability and visibility into organizational performance. 
• Improved the quality, consistency, and accessibility of management reporting for the Executive Team, Finance Committee, Board, and operational leaders. 
 Identified and implemented opportunities for automation and process improvement, reducing reliance on manual processes and improving efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness. 
• Strengthened the integration, governance, and reliability of financial, donor, and operational data systems. 
• Enhanced internal controls, compliance practices, audit readiness, and risk management processes. 
• Built strong working relationships with leaders across the organization, becoming a trusted advisor who helps translate financial information into practical operational decisions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Finance & Organizational Decision Support

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, target setting, and organizational performance analysis. 
• Develop dashboards, reporting frameworks, and performance measures that support informed decision-making across the organization. 
• Partner with departmental leaders on planning, forecasting, resource allocation, and performance management. 
• Translate financial and operational data into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership. 
• Support the CEO, COO, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee through high-quality reporting and analysis.


Financial Management & Compliance

• Oversee financial reporting, treasury management, cash-flow planning, banking relationships, and monthly financial statements. 
• Ensure compliance with CRA requirements, charitable regulations, payroll remittances, GST/HST obligations, and other statutory requirements. 
• Support reporting requirements for government grants, contracts, and funding agreements. 
• Provide oversight to the contracted bookkeeping team and maintain the integrity of financial systems and reporting structures. 
• Lead annual audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.


Data Governance, Systems & Technology

• Lead the organization's data governance framework and safeguard the integrity of financial, donor, and operational data. 
• Translate system capabilities into practical workflows, controls, reporting structures, and business processes. 
• Improve system utilization, reduce manual processes, and identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies. 
• Oversee reporting tools, dashboards, and technology solutions that support organizational effectiveness and decision-making. 
• Manage external technology vendors and support the ongoing evolution of operational systems.


Operations, Risk & Facilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations and facilities management, supported by the Office Manager. 
• Ensure organizational facilities remain safe, secure, compliant, and well-maintained. 
• Manage vendor relationships, contracts, insurance, and operational risk mitigation activities. 
• Strengthen internal controls, compliance practices, and organizational policies. 
• Support governance activities through reporting, compliance, and Board materials.


Team Leadership

• Supervise and support the Office Manager through coaching, goal setting, and performance management. 
• Provide functional oversight to the contracted bookkeeping team. 
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. 
• Partner with Human Resources on recruitment, onboarding, training, and employee development initiatives as required.


IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

• CPA designation required. 
• 7+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally within the charitable, nonprofit, or broader public-benefit sector. 
 Demonstrated success leading budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, treasury management, compliance, and audit functions. 
• Strong understanding of CRA requirements for registered charities, government funding compliance, and nonprofit financial management. 
• Experience developing dashboards, reporting frameworks, forecasting models, and performance measurement tools. 
 Demonstrated success improving financial systems, operational workflows, reporting processes, and organizational effectiveness. 
• Experience implementing technology solutions, automation initiatives, and managing external vendors. 
• Proven ability to build collaborative relationships and influence decision-making across departments. 
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial audiences. 
• Strong analytical, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills. 
• Personal values aligned with Ve'ahavta's mission and vision.


Additional Assets

• Experience working within the charitable or nonprofit sector. 
• Experience supporting Board and Finance Committee governance processes. 
• Experience with CRM, ERP, reporting, business intelligence, or dashboarding platforms. 
• Familiarity with AI-enabled tools that improve operational efficiency and reporting.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Annual Salary: $115,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience.
