Sr. Solution Architect

About the role

Wherobots is looking for an experienced Solution Architect to help enterprise customers design and adopt geospatial data solutions. You will partner with sales throughout technical discovery, solution design, demonstrations, and proofs of concept, then help customers move into production and expand their use of Wherobots.

This is a customer-facing role with hands-on technical work. You will help customers connect raster ETL, spatial analytics, and computer vision or machine learning use cases to their business needs. You will also create reusable technical resources and bring customer feedback to product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-sales: Lead technical discovery. Partner with sales and marketing to understand customer business challenges, data infrastructure, and analytics needs. Translate those requirements into proposed solutions and clear success criteria.
  • Pre-sales: Design solution architectures. Develop architecture diagrams, integration flows, and deployment plans tailored to customer environments, including platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, and Google Earth Engine.
  • Pre-sales: Deliver demonstrations and proofs of concept. Build customer-specific demonstrations, notebooks, and benchmarks that show how Wherobots supports raster ETL, spatial analytics, and ML workflows. Help customers evaluate technical fit and business value.
  • Post-sales: Lead architectural onboarding. Guide new customers from evaluation into production, working with their engineering and analytics teams to establish implementation plans and operational best practices.
  • Post-sales: Support customer implementations. Help customers design data ingestion and transformation pipelines, spatial analysis workflows, and model inference integrations, including storage, querying, visualization, and governance.
  • Post-sales: Troubleshoot technical issues. Serve as a technical escalation point and work with product and support engineering to resolve issues and improve customer deployments.
  • Create reusable technical resources. Develop reference architectures, implementation guides, Jupyter notebooks, tutorials, and technical blog posts. Share practical examples through workshops, webinars, technical events, and community engagement.
  • Inform product direction. Collect customer requirements and implementation feedback to help prioritize improvements to Wherobots capabilities, APIs, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role covering pre-sales and post-sales activities, such as solution architecture, sales engineering, or technical consulting.
  • Experience with spatial data and spatial analysis, including raster processing using tools such as GDAL and Rasterio.
  • Hands-on Python and SQL skills for building customer examples, analyzing data, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Strong understanding of the data analytics lifecycle, from extract, transform, and load (ETL) pipelines through data platform design to business intelligence and analytics tools.
  • Strong skills in databases, data warehouses, and data processing, with familiarity with technologies such as PostgreSQL, Apache Iceberg, and AWS Glue.
  • Experience working with cloud object storage such as Amazon S3 and geospatial data formats such as GeoTIFF, Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF (COG), or Zarr.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a customer-focused approach and the ability to collaborate across sales, engineering, and product teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, geography, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have (Optional)

  • Experience with Apache Spark and Apache Sedona.
  • Experience with PyTorch, computer vision, or machine learning workflows, including model inference on satellite imagery or other raster data.
  • Familiarity with Xarray for working with multidimensional raster and scientific datasets.
  • A track record of supporting enterprise data or analytics software sales, including identifying key stakeholders, establishing value propositions, and delivering successful proofs of concept.
  • Experience designing solutions around large-scale databases and enterprise data platforms.
  • Familiarity with downstream data consumption patterns, including BI tools, dashboards, and application integrations.
  • Experience working at an enterprise software startup.

About Wherobots

Wherobots is the AI Context Engine for the Physical World: the missing infrastructure layer for AI that needs to reason about our physical reality. Existing AI context infrastructure was built for text, code, documents, databases, and the internet. The most consequential enterprise decisions also depend on the physical world: supply chains, climate exposure, geopolitics, infrastructure, and more.

Our two products let teams use familiar SQL and Python to analyze physical-world data and give AI agents persistent context about their organization’s assets and operations:

  • WherobotsDB is a fully distributed spatial analytics engine with a Rust-native execution layer. It processes vector and raster data in the same engine at scale, enabling precise spatial joins across billions of geometries and analysis that connects imagery with business data.
  • RasterFlow is a fully distributed, serverless engine for raster preparation and computer vision. It processes satellite imagery at planetary scale, runs built-in or custom PyTorch models, and turns imagery into predictions and spatial features that teams can analyze with WherobotsDB.

Wherobots was founded by the original creators of Apache Sedona, the open-source spatial computing platform with more than 80 million downloads. Apache Sedona is used in production by tens of thousands of organizations, including many Fortune 500 companies.
