About The Democratic Party of Wisconsin

WisDems is nationally recognized as one of the country’s highest-performing and most pivotal political organizations. During the upcoming election cycle, WisDems will drive massive programs to hold Republicans accountable, elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot, and work to build volunteer-led coalitions for the long term. WisDems’ work is grounded in inclusion, respect, and empowerment across race, gender, other dimensions of identity, and the rural/suburban/urban divide. Our work continues year-round, collaborating with partners to build a movement that delivers meaningful change for all Wisconsinites. We seek outstanding applicants who share our values and vision to join the team, help win elections, and build a future where everyone can thrive.

Proudly a Bargaining Unit Position with the Campaign Workers Guild

The Opportunity: As a Field Organizer, you are the heartbeat of our grassroots movement. This is not a behind-the-scenes strategy or policy role; this is an active, on-the-ground, front-line position. Your daily mission is to talk directly to voters and recruit, train, and support the local volunteer teams who will help us win. You will spend your days recruiting volunteers on the phone, empowering them to launch canvases and other Direct Voter contact events, knocking on doors, conducting high-traffic canvassing, and tracking your progress against strict metrics. You are responsible for executing the field plan in your specific turf, building durable volunteer infrastructure, and ensuring every possible Democratic vote is mobilized.

You’re our person if:

  • You are driven by numbers and metrics. You don't shy away from a quota. Whether it’s the number of calls made, doors knocked, or volunteer shifts scheduled, you find satisfaction in hitting and exceeding your daily and weekly goals.
  • You are a fearless communicator. You aren’t afraid to pick up the phone and call a stranger. You can quickly build rapport, confidently make a "hard ask" for someone to volunteer, and brush off a "no" without losing your momentum.
  • You lead by example. You are willing to put in the hours knocking doors yourself, but you are equally focused on teaching and empowering your volunteers to do the same.
  • You are adaptable and resilient. Campaign days are long and irregular, requiring evening and weekend work. When it rains during a canvass or a volunteer cancels at the last minute, you don't panic—you pivot and find a way to hit your goal anyway.

Job Responsibilities:

Daily Voter & Volunteer Contact:

  • Execute daily direct voter contact (DVC) and volunteer recruitment through high-volume phone banking, text banking, and door-to-door canvassing.
  • Meet or exceed rigorous daily and weekly metric-based goals for calls made, doors knocked, and volunteer shifts recruited.

Volunteer Team Management:

  • Build, train, and support local grassroots volunteer teams (Neighborhood Action Teams).
  • Move volunteers up the "ladder of engagement" by identifying stand-out individuals and coaching them to take on leadership roles (e.g., hosting phone banks or staging locations).
  • Plan, manage, and execute effective grassroots activities in your turf, including canvass kick-offs, friendbanks, community tabling, and house meetings.

Data & Operations:

  • Ensure all voter and volunteer data is entered into VoteBuilder (VAN) accurately, honestly, and on time at the end of every shift.
  • Work with regional leadership to ensure you have the materials, canvass packets, and turf necessary to execute your daily goals.
  • Maintain a relentlessly visible campaign presence in your community, building strong relationships with local stakeholders, county party leaders, and allied groups.

Core Qualifications:

  • Accountability & Solution-Oriented: You take full ownership of your actions and commitments, holding yourself to a high standard and seeing objectives through to completion. When challenges arise, you approach them with a problem-solving mindset, focusing on solutions rather than pointing fingers.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: You succeed by working as a team, stepping up to support teammates, and sharing knowledge freely. You actively break down silos by connecting across teams, inviting different perspectives, and staying open to new ideas to achieve shared goals.
  • Growth & Adaptability: You are dedicated to continuous improvement and challenge yourself to learn and adapt. You proactively seek, offer, and act on feedback with openness and can anticipate potential obstacles to take proactive steps.
  • Respect & Inclusion: You build strong relationships by treating everyone with kindness, dignity, and trust. You approach interactions assuming positive intent and have the courage to address difficult topics directly and honestly while showing care for others.
  • Transparent Communication: You communicate openly and honestly to build trust and alignment. You are proactive in setting clear expectations, sharing the "why" behind decisions, and providing timely updates to ensure the right people have the information they need.

Qualifications (Required):

  • Goal Orientation: Relentlessly goal-oriented with a proven track record of working toward and achieving ambitious targets in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to quickly connect with others, motivate them, and make direct "asks."
  • Cultural Competency: Ability to build authentic relationships across lines of difference and organize effectively in diverse communities.
  • Work Ethic & Resilience: Capacity and willingness to work long, irregular hours (including nights and weekends) during peak campaign season while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Transportation: Access to reliable transportation (frequent travel within your assigned turf is required).
  • Values: A strong commitment to electing Democrats and advancing progressive values.

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Previous organizing, sales, customer service, or high-volume outreach experience.
  • Proficiency with VoteBuilder (VAN), Reach, or similar databases.
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin communities and political geography.
