For over 100 years, Peterborough residents have been relying on Peterborough Utilities for their drinking water. Today our group of companies also develop and operate electricity generation, energy equipment rentals, and commercial metering services both in Peterborough and other areas of the province.
This position supports the Water Utility and will transition to the City of Peterborough in April 2025.
This position may be required to work from any city facility and is an in office position.
About the role
The Cashier utilizes skills by dealing effectively and in a friendly manner with internal and external customers by telephone and in person.
What you'll do
- Record and balance payment transactions and other transactions and adjustments related to cash function.
- Receive and process incoming payments from night deposit box, mail and banks.
- Preparation of bank deposits and related reports for the Accounting Department.
- Handle effectively a variety of problems involving bad checks, customer complaints, payment tracing etc.
- Miscellaneous clerical duties including data entry, scanning, mailing and word processing.
- Reception duties (answering phones, greeting and directing visitors).
- Assist with projects, programs and miscellaneous assignments as required.
Qualifications
Completion of secondary school with a minimum of one (1) year experience in Customer Service, preferably in a call centre environment.
Skills (Technical Skills)
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of customer relations.
- Pleasant and courteous telephone manner
- Demonstrated initiative, good judgement and stability in executing duties of this position
- Knowledge of personal computer operations (MS Office Suite, Internet, Word, Excel)
- General knowledge of cash and billing systems.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
- Demonstrated high level of integrity.
- Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards.
