About the role
- The Security Guard supports the safety and security of Qalam’s facility, staff, students, and guests. This includes monitoring camera systems, overseeing parking access, maintaining building security, and patrolling during programs and events. The ideal candidate is vigilant, reliable, and committed to maintaining safety across the campus.
What you'll do
- Surveillance & Patrol
- Monitor live camera feeds and report any unusual activity or security concerns.
- Conduct regular patrols of buildings, parking lots, and outdoor areas.
- Ensure all doors, gates, and alarm systems are secured.
- Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or maintenance issues.
- Parking & Access Control
- Oversee parking lot access during daily operations and events.
- Ensure only authorized vehicles enter designated areas.
- Open or close coned zones and restricted parking sections as directed by Facilities.
- Assist with traffic flow and guide vehicles safely during busy periods.
- Program & Event Support
- Provide presence and monitoring during large events and programs.
- Support staff with access control, crowd flow, and material drop-offs.
- Coordinate with Facilities and Program Leads for pre-event safety walkthroughs.
- Incident Response
- Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, or medical emergencies.
- De-escalate conflicts calmly and maintain composure under pressure.
- Complete detailed incident reports and notify the Facilities Manager.
- Customer Service
- Greet visitors courteously and offer assistance or directions when needed.
- Escort staff or guests upon request to ensure safety.
- Maintain professionalism and discretion at all times.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or facilities monitoring preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Comfortable with monitoring surveillance systems and operating basic security technology.
- Strong communication, observation, and situational awareness skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Schedule
- Evening and weekend coverage required.
- Typical hours: Weekdays, Weekends, Early mornings, Evenings
- Flexibility for extended shifts during special programs (Intensives, retreats, etc.).
