1. General Masjid Volunteers

Role Overview

General Masjid Volunteers assist with directing attendees and managing crowd flow before, during, and after prayers to ensure a safe, welcoming, and organized environment for all community members.

Responsibilities
  • Guide attendees to prayer areas, entrances, and exits
  • Support smooth crowd flow in hallways and common areas
  • Assist elders, families, and individuals with accessibility needs
  • Communicate clearly and work collaboratively with team leads
Requirements

To ensure the safety and security of the community, all volunteers are required to submit:

  • Driver’s license information
  • Vehicle license plate information

2. Hifdh Boys & Girls Taraweeh Support Volunteers

Role Overview

Volunteers support a focused, respectful, and organized Taraweeh environment for Hifdh boys and girls. This role is essential in maintaining proper adab, student engagement, and smooth prayer flow.

Responsibilities
  • Be fully present and attentive while supervising students during prayer
  • Arrive on time and be prepared before Taraweeh begins
  • Ensure students remain in the prayer area and actively participate
  • Supervise bathroom breaks by:
    • Tracking students who leave
    • Ensuring prompt and safe return
  • Assist with distributing snacks and water during the short break between rakaʿāt (after 8 rakʿahs)
  • Monitor parent interactions and kindly ensure:
    • Parents do not interrupt prayer or supervision
    • Concerns are addressed appropriately outside of prayer time
  • Be familiar with the Taraweeh leadership schedule (imams/reciters) to:
    • Facilitate smooth transitions
    • Ensure assigned students are prepared and in place
Expectations
  • Volunteers should be gentle, respectful, and firm in maintaining order and focus within the prayer space

3. General Youth & Girls Taraweeh Support Volunteers

Role Overview

Volunteers help maintain a focused, respectful, and organized Taraweeh environment for youth participants, supporting proper adab and the smooth flow of prayer.

Responsibilities
  • Remain present and attentive, avoiding distractions while supervising youth
  • Ensure youth stay within the prayer area and avoid unnecessary entry or exit
  • Monitor behavior to ensure:
    • Active participation in prayer
    • No playing, running, or disruptive behavior
  • Be familiar with the Taraweeh leadership schedule to:
    • Ensure assigned reciters are present and prepared
    • Support smooth transitions between reciters
  • Know the khatirah schedule and designated speaker
  • Assist with distributing snacks and drinks during designated breaks
Expectations
  • Volunteers should be gentle, respectful, and firm in maintaining order within the prayer space

4. Roots Ramadan Volunteers

Role Overview

Roots Ramadan Volunteers play a vital role in helping our community experience a smooth, welcoming, and spiritually uplifting Ramadan at Roots. Volunteers support the flow of programs, assist with food distribution, help maintain organized spaces, and serve as warm points of contact for community members. This role requires teamwork, attentiveness, and a sincere intention of khidmah (service) for the sake of Allah.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Flow & Support: Assist with set-up, transitions, and breakdown for nightly programs to ensure everything runs smoothly and on time
  • Guest Experience & Flow: Help direct community members, manage lines, guide seating, and answer basic questions with adab and kindness
  • Food Distribution: Support iftar distribution and clean-up
  • Space & Organization: Help maintain clean, safe, and organized spaces
Volunteer Expectations
  • Commitment & Reliability: Arrive on time for assigned shifts
  • Adab & Professionalism: Interact with community members and fellow volunteers with respect, patience, and a welcoming attitude at all times
  • Flexibility: Be willing to assist with different tasks as needs shift throughout the evening
  • Accountability: Follow Roots policies, safety guidelines, and volunteer protocols
  • Teamwork: Serve collaboratively, support one another, and uphold a positive environment
