QA Automation Lead

At Qu you’ll find a fun, dynamic, and diverse culture that celebrates team and individual success. Our people are down to earth, trail blazin’ folks who value innovation.

We are seeking a hands-on QA Automation Lead / Architect who can design and execute automation strategy while directly contributing through coding, pipeline setup, and troubleshooting. This role requires someone who delivers tangible improvements quickly, drives a shift-left testing approach, and ensures automation work leads to measurable improvements in product quality and release confidence. The right person will combine leadership with hands-on delivery, earning trust by showing results and enabling teams to integrate quality earlier in the development cycle.

At Qu you will be responsible for:

Automation Strategy & Execution

  • Define and deliver end-to-end automation initiatives, ensuring outcomes are visible within the first 90 days.
  • Personally contribute by writing automated test cases, building pipelines, and fixing flaky/broken tests.
  • Drive measurable increases in regression coverage, pipeline stability, and reporting accuracy.

Shift-Left & Quality Focus

  • Champion a shift-left approach: integrate automated checks into PR pipelines and CI/CD so testing happens earlier in development.
  • Partner with developers and product team to prioritize automation of business-critical and high-risk flows.
  • Track not just coverage, but product quality outcomes (e.g., fewer escaped defects, faster feedback cycles, reduced manual effort).

Frameworks, Tools & Infrastructure

  • Build and maintain maintainable, scalable automation frameworks (UI + API).
  • Ensure CI/CD-ready pipelines are stable, efficient, and monitored continuously.
  • Introduce and enforce automation coding standards and best practices across teams

Leadership & Team Trust

  • Provide hands-on coaching by pairing with engineers on automation and test design.
  • Build trust with QA engineers and developers through delivery, not just oversight.
  • Hold teams accountable for quality while motivating them with clear direction and support.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner with Product and Engineering leads to make QA progress visible.
  • Communicate progress in terms of action plans, risks, and results — not just observations.
  • Ensure automation efforts are aligned with release schedules and business priorities

Continuous Improvement & Accountability

  • Establish KPIs that measure both execution (new tests, stability, coverage) and quality outcomes (defects prevented, cycle time reduced).
  • Deliver automation dashboards and reports that clearly show value to the business.

Guarantee every sprint produces tangible QA deliverables tied to product quality.

What we're looking for:

  • 10+ years in QA with proven record of hands-on automation delivery.
  • At least 3 years in a QA lead/architect role, combining leadership with technical contributions.
  • Expertise in UI automation (Playwright, Cypress) and API testing (Postman, RestAssured, KarateDSL).
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java, JS/TS, or C#).
  • Strong experience in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with containerized environments and cloud platforms (e.g., Docker, AWS, GCP).
  • Evidence of successfully introducing shift-left testing practices.
  • Track record of delivering visible results within the first 90 days of a new role.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience cleaning up large, fragile test suites and making them maintainable.
  • Strong communicator who frames problems as solutions and action plans.
  • Performance testing (JMeter, Gatling, K6) and observability tools experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of microservices and event-driven systems.
