We are seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer with a strong background with in backend testing, a passion for quality, and hands-on expertise in automation. You will help architect, build, and maintain robust automation for APIs and backend services—ensuring reliability, performance, and overall technical excellence across mission-critical systems.This role is ideal for someone who elevates quality practices, and who can balance an automation-first mindset with thoughtful manual test design when dealing with complex service-oriented architectures.The ideal candidate values deep collaboration across engineering, and is driven to ensure testing is integrated seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.


At Qu you will:

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated API and service-level test cases using Karate, with a strong preference towards Postman expertise.
  • Provide technical leadership across QA automation, setting best practices for backend testing, frameworks, and automation strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, and product teams to define and evolve test strategies for new and existing services.
  • Develop and maintain automated regression, smoke, and contract test suites ensuring high reliability and rapid feedback loops.
  • Perform manual exploratory and validation testing for complex backend workflows or non-automatable areas.
  • Execute backend performance testing and validations using tools like JMeter, k6, or equivalent.
  • Validate data integrity and conduct root cause analysis using logs, service metrics, and backend databases.
  • Work comfortably in Linux-based environments, leveraging Docker for test execution, local development, and environment configuration.
  • Run tests in Dockerized environments or local dev environments; contribute to test environment setup and configuration.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Contribute to continuous integration (CI) and continuous testing (CT) pipelines as part of the QA automation lifecycle.

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in software QA with a heavy emphasis on backend/API testing.
  • Proven expertise in backend QA automation, including framework design, test strategy, and improving engineering-wide quality practices.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Postman, including complex workflows, scripting, chaining, and API debugging.
  • Experience writing and maintaining automated tests in Karate Framework (or willingness to learn quickly).
  • Strong understanding of RESTful services, auth flows, headers, status codes, and payload validation.
  • Strong experience with Docker and containerized test setups.
  • Experience reading logs and debugging backend systems.
  • Solid manual QA background and exploratory testing experience for service-level validation.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum and using tools like JIRA, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Basic proficiency in reading code (e.g., Java, C#, JavaScript) to assist in triage and test alignment.

Bonus Experience

  • Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Experience with performance testing tools like JMeter, k6, or Locust.
  • Knowledge of MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
  • Experience testing distributed or edge-deployed systems (POS terminals, IoT devices, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Domain expertise in restaurant/POS systems and workflows.

The pay range for this role is:

120,000 - 150,000 USD per year (Remote (United States))
