Job Description: We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lead to join Quartermaster in a hands-on role where you will take ownership of our product's CAD design, iteratively improving on its mechanical architecture. In addition to design work, you will collaborate with the field operations team to develop shipboard installation standards and training. Long-term, you will play a key role in expanding our product offerings by developing new sensing systems for marine vessels, and helping translate in-the-field insights into product innovations.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, comfortable with hands-on engineering work, and shows potential to grow into a team leader. This job will require occasional travel to vessel locations, or manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and advance Quartermaster’s Smartmast CAD design .
- Manage mechanical design and integration of new components and systems.
- Collaborate with the field operations team to refine shipboard installation techniques and provide hands-on training where needed.
- Identify and resolve design challenges related to harsh marine environments
- Develop new sensing systems for marine vessels to enhance customer value and product differentiation.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, including CAD (SolidWorks or similar).
- Strong background in design for harsh environments (marine, aerospace, or similar), and hands-on experience deploying them in real-world applications.
- Familiarity with materials selection, corrosion resistance, and waterproofing techniques.
- Familiarity with marine or industrial sensor technologies, and design techniques
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting field deployments or customer installations preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a remote team.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for shipboard installations and testing.
Work Environment:
- This is a remote position with flexible working hours.
- Collaboration will occur via online tools, with occasional team meetings.
- The role may require occasional availability outside standard working hours to support urgent issues or deployments.
