Quintessent

Process Development Engineer

About Quintessent

The resurgence of chip investments has driven an upward inflection in the performance of individual compute chips, but the ability of those chips to communicate with one-another has not kept pace. Communication, not computation, is now the system level bottleneck in large-scale computing and AI applications. Quintessent is developing connectivity solutions to break the chip communication bottleneck and future-proof compute scaling.

About the role

  • Core responsibilities include development, optimization, and execution of optoelectronic semiconductor device fabrication processes from early stage concept demonstrations to small volume product prototyping/manufacturing. Some basic cleanroom material and device characterization will be necessary as well. The candidate will work closely with the Engineering/Product teams and report to the Process Development Manager.]

What you'll do

  • Conduct research for III-V quantum dot lasers, including material characterization, fabrication process development, and optimization for device packaging
  • Coordinate with other professionals to select materials for specific products and develop new ways to use existing materials
  • Evaluate technical specifications relating to the design objectives of processes or products
  • Perform semiconductor device fabrication directly by using deposition, lithography, etching, and metrology tools.

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degrees in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
  • Previous experience in semiconductor device fabrication, in particular experience with III-V and silicon device fabrication processes and procedures such as wet & dry etching, photolithography, thin film deposition, etc.
  • Previous experience in cleanroom characterization tools such as various forms of microscopy (SEM, optical, Nomarski), AFM, ellipsometry, etc.
  • Familiarity with mask layout software.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator.
  • Fast learner and problem solver; ability to perform DOE and failure analysis.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Consistency in execution.
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor materials, semiconductor lasers, and optoelectronic devices is a plus.
  • Previous experience in semiconductor laser characterization is a plus.
