POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of Clinical Leadership, the Charge Nurse for the Operating Room (OR) has
responsibility for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients and
staff in the intraoperative areas. Plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the overall clinical practices
and activities necessary to function daily. Participate in the development and implementation of
policies and procedures. Monitor patient care to assess the progress of the operating room process.
Communicate any delays preoperatively to surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room, and
registration staff in a timely and accurate manner to ensure optimal use of schedule and patient
flow. Maintain open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance and
quality care. In the absence of other Center Leadership has the authority to make decisions in the
Center in the areas of patient care, human resources, and clinical financial management.
