POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of Clinical Leadership, the Team Lead for Sterile Processing Technicians monitors and directs the activities of assigned sterile processing technicians to achieve optimum performance, efficiency and quality outcomes. The Team Lead guides the daily activities of all sterile processing technicians and performs sterile processing technician responsibilities themself as needed. The Team Lead will maintain open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance and quality care.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supervision, leadership and guidance to Sterile Processing Technicians in problem solving, resource management, outcome achievement, and promotion of team cohesion.
  • Coordinate staffing; increase or decrease staff as indicated. Demonstrate staffing accountability through assigning and directing work of Sterile Processing Technician staff including training, and appraising performance in conjunction with Center Leadership.
  • Support Center Leadership in the evaluation of performance objectives and metrics for the Center and assess the level of competence of staff in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others including through rewarding and disciplining subordinate staff and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage change effectively, as well as help others do the same.
  • Support Center Leadership in demonstrating fiscal accountability for Center resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources.
  • Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Center’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Able to problem solve in the presence of stressful situations/ work environment.
  • Maintain budget items assigned by leadership.
  • Support, implement, and champion the effective management of supply costs and cost savings initiatives.
  • Function as a Sterile Processing Technician as needed:
  • Separate and prepare contaminated instrumentation for cleaning.
  • Prepare, install, assemble, clean, and sterilize/disinfect operating room or procedure room equipment and instrumentation and medical devices.
  • Decontaminate, process, sterilize/disinfect, and distribute medical supplies.
  • Inspect and perform functional checks on instrumentation/equipment to assure proper functioning prior to set/tray assembly.
  • Process, wrap, and label all equipment and instrumentation for sterilization using appropriate wraps and containers.
  • Perform proper documentation as it relates to the sterilization/HLD process.
  • Perform all duties relating to daily maintenance for all types of sterilizers/re-processors.
  • Communicate departmental equipment and supply needs to appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Sterile Processing education from an accredited school or training program
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSPDT).
  • BLS certification (as required by individual ASC policy)
