POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary responsibilities of the role include all aspects of processing, decontamination through set assembly, and sterilization and/or high-level disinfection. Dependent on the clinical setting preparation of surgical case carts and materials management may be expectations of the role.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Separate and prepare contaminated instrumentation for cleaning.
  • Prepare, install, assemble, clean, and sterilize/disinfect operating room or procedure room equipment and instrumentation and medical devices.
  • Decontaminate, process, sterilize/disinfect, and distribute medical supplies.
  • Inspect and perform functional checks on instrumentation/equipment to assure proper functioning prior to set/tray assembly.
  • Process, wrap, and label all equipment and instrumentation for sterilization using appropriate wraps and containers.
  • Perform proper documentation as it relates to the sterilization/HLD process.
  • Perform all duties relating to daily maintenance for all types of sterilizers/re-processors.
  • Communicate departmental equipment and supply needs to appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Sterile Processing education from an accredited school or training program
  • BLS (per ASC requirements)

PREFERRED:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSPDT).
  • Experience in a sterile processing department
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center experience
