About the role
- Summit Surgery Center is seeking a Billing Specialist to support the accuracy and efficiency of our billing processes. This role is responsible for submitting claims and statements to third-party payers and guarantors, reconciling billing issues, and providing financial counseling to patients. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to supporting the center’s mission and values.
What you'll do
- General Duties:
- Support the facility’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Perform duties according to facility policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Insurance Billing:
- Verify accuracy of patient insurance information.
- Enter codes, charges, and supplies into the billing system.
- Reconcile unbilled reports and resolve issues causing delays, such as missing operative notes or vendor invoices.
- Submit claims to insurance companies with all necessary documentation.
- Follow up on secondary insurance claims after primary carrier payments.
- Patient Billing and Financial Counseling:
- Verify accuracy of insurance payments and adjustments.
- Prepare and send patient statements.
- Contact patients to discuss benefits and estimated patient portions.
- Review payment options and arrange payment plans or collect payments as appropriate.
- Billing Inquiries and Correspondence:
- Field billing-related calls from patients and insurance companies.
- Provide clear and professional responses to billing questions.
- Escalate complex inquiries to the Business Office Manager or Administrator as needed.
Qualifications
- Required:
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Training in business office activities.
- Experience with third-party payer billing.
- Strong ethical and moral character references.
- Preferred:
- Two or more years of billing experience.
- Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) billing experience.
