About the role:

Respondology is seeking a detail-driven Staff Accountant to become our first dedicated, in-house accounting hire. You’ll own the day-to-day engine of our books: AR, AP, reconciliations, revenue recognition, and month-end close; and help build the processes that will carry our finance function as we scale.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of hands-on accounting experience, a strong command of GAAP (including revenue recognition), and experience running month-end close. You’re the kind of person who can’t leave a reconciliation unbalanced, and who starts looking for a better way to do a task the second time you do it.We seek an ambitious self-starter who is motivated to hit the ground running from day one.

This role works directly with our CFO and has exponential opportunity for growth as the first core in-house accounting team member.  You’ll be the go-to person for all things accounting across Respondology: working with Sales and Customer Success on invoicing and collections, helping teammates with expense reimbursements, managing vendor payments, and delivering the timely, accurate financials leadership relies on to make strategic decisions. Your work on collections and cash will tie directly to our revenue goals, and you’ll have real room to shape how our accounting function is built from the ground up.

What you’ll do:
  • Own accounts receivable end to end: invoicing, applying cash deposits, and driving collections on outstanding balances to keep our cash position on track
  • Manage customer invoicing in Tabs, ensuring bills go out accurately and on time
  • Process accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payment runs, and management of the AP inbox
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the shared accounting inbox, responding to internal and external questions quickly and accurately
  • Own revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP, ensuring revenue is recorded accurately and on schedule
  • Prepare monthly bank, credit card, and expense reimbursement reconciliations, plus reconciliations for key agency partner accounts
  • Independently manage the month-end close, keeping the close calendar on track and preparing the financial statements and internal reports leadership relies on
  • Maintain an accurate general ledger, identify and resolve discrepancies, and keep clean documentation to support audits, tax filings, and compliance
  • Partner with our fractional CFO team to transition day-to-day accounting processes in-house, documenting workflows as you go
  • Identify inefficiencies in our accounting workflows and propose improvements, from cleaner data entry to automation
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting, analyzing financial performance and sharing operational insights with cross-functional teams
  • Share best practices and help onboard future accounting teammates as the function grows
What we’re looking for:
  • 3–5 years of full-cycle accounting experience, ideally in a startup or SaaS environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and hands-on ownership of core accounting processes: general ledger, AP, AR, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Experience with revenue recognition and preparing financial statements, ideally for a SaaS business (ASC 606)
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, spotting and resolving discrepancies without close oversight
  • Hands-on experience with cloud accounting software (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar) and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail: you take pride in books that tie out
  • Strong organization and time management, with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines, especially around close
  • Clear, friendly communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance teammates
  • An ownership mindset: you’re resourceful, proactive, and excited to build process where it doesn’t exist yet
  • Nice to have: Experience with billing/AR automation tools like Tabs
  • Nice to have: Experience transitioning accounting work from an outsourced firm to an in-house team
  • Nice to have: CPA, or working toward one
