Mission statement

The objective of this role is to ensure the timely and accurate completion of financial reporting, support the business with commercial planning and reporting for overhead expenditure, to ensure robustness and accuracy of the balance sheet and to ensure compliance with financial accounting requirements.

 The role 

This role is designed for individuals looking to develop their career in finance. It is a wide fully encompassing role across both technical and commercial finance.  The finance team is a small well-formed friendly team with a number of different priorities in a quickly-growing, dynamic and ambitious company. A desire to learn and develop and be open to different projects and opportunities will help a candidate be successful in this role.

Responsibilities

  • P&L responsibility for all items below gross profit, to exclude but not limited to overheads, salaries, interest, tax and exceptionals.

  • Business partnering with overhead budget holders.

  • Monthly and annual consolidations to produce the Group P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow

  • Management of finance staff.

  • Accountable for review of control account reconciliations and completeness of balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Cost centre reporting and analysis.

  • Assistance with budgeting and forecasting- overheads, Balance Sheet and Cash flow forecasting.

  • Management of the audit process to include management of the deliverables, allocation of audit work across the team, coordinating external parties, and answering technical audit-related queries.

  • Accountable for the robustness and accuracy of the balance sheet.

  • Implementation of new accounting standards as they come into force.

  • Supporting auditors with completion of the financial statements and providing notes disclosures.

  • Reconciliation of intercompany accounts and intercompany cross-charges.

  • Ad hoc finance tasks and projects when required. 

  • Responsibility for all technical aspects of audit to include, but not limited to preparing audit papers,  going concern review, value in use and intangibles recoverability, subsequent events, Directors remuneration certificates and net present value calculations (full training to be provided).

  • Working with other members of the finance team to ensure that consistently correct financial reporting is delivered in a timely manner each reporting period.



A bit about you

To thrive as Financial Controller within our company, applicants should demonstrate a proactive approach to challenges, have a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, CIMA or ACCA), have an independent approach towards problem-solving and be flexible with regards to balancing priorities.  This role is suitable for qualified accountants that either already have FC experience or are looking to take that step into an FC role. Experience in all areas is not required as training will be provided, however a working understanding of balance sheet control and key elements of financial reporting is essential.
