About the role
As a Senior Field Technician, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional service to our customers by providing technical expertise, troubleshooting, and on-site support. You will lead and instruct employees and customers in various areas, including customer service, field service, startups, and Original Equipment Manufacturer warranty assistance. This role requires proficiency in electrical diagnostics and trending test equipment.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical support via phone and email, assisting customers with troubleshooting, drawings, and general technical inquiries.
- Perform on-site field service, including warranty support, commissioning, acceptance testing, integrated system testing, protective relay settings, and functional tests for various Original Equipment Manufacturer products.
- Travel up to 50-70% of the time, including weekends and holidays, to conduct service repairs, training, and startups.
- Assist with new product research, development, and evaluation, contributing to specialized work of substantial variety and complexity.
- Conduct functional testing of completed controllers and custom-built controls, troubleshooting at the component level when necessary.
- Support the engineering department with research, development, and evaluation of proposed equipment.
- Drive projects to completion with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Ensure site safety compliance, attending customer safety meetings and adhering to E4A Solutions and customer guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience working with:
- 12 VDC to 125 VDC and 120 VAC to 500kVAC.
- Relay logic and PLC-based circuits troubleshooting.
- Motor control systems (across-the-line and reduced current).
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Switchboards troubleshooting and testing.
- Low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment – transformers, power transformers, CTs, switchgear, motors, etc
- Ability to install and troubleshoot, electrical drawings, electrical equipment, SEL, Multilane, Allen Bradley, Siemens, and GE programmable logic controllers.
- Familiarity with industry standards: NFPA 20, NFPA 25, NFPA 70, UL50, UL508, UL891, UL1558, UL1773, IEEE, and NEC.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and provide training via phone, email, or video conferencing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to travel on short notice for emergency service work.
- Must have a clean driving record and be eligible for government clearance work.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods, and work extended hours when required (within OSHA guidelines).
Education and Experience
- 3+ years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write reports, manuals, and effectively present information to managers, clients, and employees.
- Basic math skills to solve electrical circuit formulas.
