About the Role

This is a unique role positioned at the critical intersection of Engineering and Accounting, dedicated to enabling Rippling’s financial systems to keep pace with our evolving business models. Run out of our Bangalore office, this position carries high ownership, visibility, and impact — directly shaping how our in-house billing platform and finance integrations scale to support Rippling’s growth.

The role requires deep cross-functional collaboration across Accounting, Billing Engineering, Payments Infrastructure, and Product teams. The ideal candidate brings a rare blend of technical depth and functional understanding, with hands-on engineering expertise and a proven track record of building robust automations and integrations for finance operations.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on, proactive engineer who thrives in an environment that demands both architectural thinking and close partnership with non-technical stakeholders. We’re looking for a true team player who will engage deeply with technical implementation, shape system design, and deliver scalable, high-impact solutions that enhance and future-proof Rippling’s financial operations.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the primary technical authority and subject matter expert for all Engineering activities within the Accounting function, shaping the strategic direction of our in-house billing platform and related financial system.
  • Work cross-functionally with Billing Engineering, Payments Operations & Analytics, PEO Engineering, and Payment Infrastructure teams to align priorities and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Lead the architectural design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable billing and revenue workflows, ensuring seamless integrations with ERP modules, payment gateways, and enterprise financial applications.
  • Collaborate extensively with senior stakeholders across Accounting, Engineering, Product, and Finance to translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions that uphold accuracy, compliance, and audibility.
  • Design, implement, and govern high-performance APIs, distributed services, and data pipelines, ensuring reliable transaction processing, data quality, and real-time visibility for mission-critical billing operations.
  • Own the design and operating effectiveness of controls from the Billing Support Console to NetSuite, covering contracts, subscriptions, invoices, collections, and credits data.
  • Own the review and management of Quarterly Business Review (QBR) agendas for Engineering teams to ensure transparency and alignment on accounting priorities and deliverables.
  • Maintain and own integrations using ETL tools such as Census, and oversee the broader integration strategy across all financial systems to ensure robust, scalable, and auditable data flows.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern technologies, architectural patterns, and best practices to strengthen the performance, scalability, and security of the billing ecosystem.
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation, functional specifications, and runbooks to guide engineering teams and support cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior Accounting leadership, clearly communicating technical concepts and providing strategic recommendations for informed decision-making.
  • Lead and mentor engineers within and beyond the immediate team, promoting high standards of code quality, design rigour, and observability across the financial systems landscape.
  • Proactively investigate and resolve the most complex production challenges, ensuring the resilience and accuracy of all billing-related data flows and integrations.
  • Influencing technology roadmaps and financial automation strategies at the company level.

What You Will Need

  • 6+ years of professional experience in software Solutioning, with deep expertise designing and operating large-scale distributed systems, ideally within financial, billing, or payments domains.
  • Demonstrated success leading technical strategy and delivering scalable billing platforms that support high-volume, high-reliability transactional ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in modern backend architecture, with proficiency in Python and experience designing and overseeing the implementation of distributed systems and scalable APIs.
  • Advanced fluency in SQL, data modelling, and orchestration of ETL pipelines; Preferred hands-on experience with tools such as Airflow, Snowflake, Postgres, MongoDB, Kafka, and Redis.
  • Deep understanding of integration architecture, web services, RESTful APIs, web hooks, and secure third-party connectivity.
  • Expertise implementing comprehensive observability, monitoring, and incident response for high-stakes financial systems.
  • Track record of diagnosing and resolving complex data quality issues, transaction mismatches, and reconciliation challenges.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence and engage diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple functional areas.
  • A strategic mindset and genuine passion for automation, continuous improvement, and driving operational excellence in financial processes.

Bonus Points For

  • Prior ownership of in-house billing or subscription management systems.
  • Familiarity with revenue recognition automation, global tax logic,  or complex pricing models.
  • Experience deploying billing systems on cloud-native infrastructures such as AWS or GCP.
  • Direct experience operating in SOX-regulated environments, with a strong commitment to maintaining data integrity, controls, and audit readiness.
