Product Lead, Permissions

About Rippling

Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.

Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.

Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.

We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.

About the role

The Rippling Platform team is responsible for the products and frameworks that showcase the value of seamlessly integrating HR, IT, Finance, and third-party applications together into one unified platform. The team owns the foundational building blocks – like reporting, workflow automation, permissions, approvals, policies, search, notifications, and a unified data platform – that are leveraged across Rippling products. They also own end-user-facing products that leverage the unified data from these otherwise-fragmented business applications. Read more about the Rippling Platform at https://www.rippling.com/platform.

Rippling's permissions platform is the authorization layer for the entire product – it controls who can see what data and take what actions across HR, IT, and Finance. Every Rippling product depends on it. You'll own the vision and execution for this system, defining the authorization primitives that product teams across Rippling build on, shaping how permissions work with Rippling's AI features, and designing experiences that make complex access control simple to configure.

What you will do

  • You will own the element of the Rippling Platform that is core to our strategy: permissions & authorization
  • You will own the customer experience for creating and managing access policies that will dynamically grant users with the correct level of data and application access… with the desired scope
  • You will deeply understand the permission needs of Rippling applications, leading the vision and execution of platform building blocks that serve a wide array of Rippling products
  • You’ll be eager to roll up your sleeves and dig into the technical details while obsessing over a simple, intuitive customer experience
  • You’ll work cross-functionally – across product, engineering, design, marketing, and customer-facing functions – to design an extensible system that can meet the evolving needs of Rippling product teams and our customers
  • You will shape how permissions work with Rippling's AI capabilities, ensuring AI-powered features respect authorization boundaries by design

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Product Management experience with a software engineering background
  • Experience owning or building permissions or authorization systems – RBAC, ABAC, fine-grained access controls
  • Experience scaling platform building blocks across a large product surface area
  • Deep technical, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Self-starter with a bias towards action and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication & organizational skills
  • Strong ability to motivate and inspire people to do their best work
  • Relentlessly focused on customers’ needs
  • Strong alignment with Rippling's leadership principles, particularly 'Go and see', 'Are right, a lot', and 'Go to Western Union'
