About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to join Rippling’s Global Payroll Operations team and help lead payroll delivery for our EOR customers across Australia and New Zealand.

Our Global Payroll Operations team plays a critical role in ensuring the success of Rippling’s global payroll products, which are natively built and fully integrated with Rippling’s broader suite of products. This role sits at the center of Rippling’s global payroll operations, helping scale country-specific expertise, operational controls, and payroll excellence across our Australia and New Zealand EOR business.

The Senior Payroll Specialist will own the most complex parts of the end-to-end payroll process, including escalations, corrections, off-cycle support, statutory payroll requirements, customer-facing payroll issues, and post-payroll resolution. Success in this role requires deep Australian and New Zealand payroll knowledge, sharp judgment on tax and payroll treatment, and the ability to guide others through complex issues across earnings types, allowances, statutory and leave-related payments, PAYG and PAYE withholdings, payday filing, and ATO, NZ IRD issues, student loans, terminations, superannuation, KiwiSaver and statutory leave-dependent cases.

This is a senior, highly cross-functional role for someone who can build the Australia and New Zealand EOR payroll workstream: resolving high-complexity payroll issues, strengthening controls and documentation, coaching payroll specialists, and partnering with Product and Engineering on durable improvements to the EOR payroll experience across ANZ.

What You Will Do

  • Own complex EOR payroll processing for Australia and New Zealand, including inputs, approvals, corrections, off-cycle payments, statutory payroll outputs, post-payroll review, and issue resolution.
  • Act as a senior payroll and payroll tax subject-matter expert for escalations, including overpayments, final pay, redundancy pay, PAYG withholding, payday filing, and employee tax-code issues, statutory documents, pension contributions, such as Superannuation and KiwiSaver deductions, and ATO/NZ IRD disputes.
  • Create, review, and validate pay types, payroll inputs, and payroll configurations, ensuring earnings, deductions, reimbursements, benefits, allowances, statutory payments, and leave-related pay receive the correct payroll and tax treatment in each jurisdiction.
  • Advise customers and internal teams on Australian and New Zealand payroll requirements, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, KiwiSaver, ESCT, ACC, taxable benefits, reimbursements, child support and garnishment deductions, leave-related pay, and termination tax treatment.
  • Review, reconcile, and validate payroll outputs, including payslips, wage codes, deductions, superannuation and KiwiSaver contributions, correction calculations, and off-cycle calculations across both markets.
  • Strengthen payroll controls, audit checks, quality-review processes, SOPs, escalation playbooks, customer guidance, internal knowledge resources, and product/process feedback loops to reduce repeat issues, improve consistency, mentor payroll specialists, and support scalable payroll operations.

What You Will Need

  • 5+ years of experience in Australian and New Zealand end-to-end payroll processing and complex escalations, including audits, notices, disputes, ATO/IRD queries and employee -facing payroll issue resolution.
  • Expert-level understanding of Australian and New Zealand payroll and tax compliance, including PAYG withholding, STP, superannuation, payroll tax, KiwiSaver, ESCT, ACC and statutory payments, termination calculations, year-end requirements, and country specific leave obligations

  • Strong judgment across different payroll scenarios, with the ability to determine how compliance requirements apply to different pay types, earnings, deductions, benefits, reimbursements, allowances, and other payroll components.

  • Experience with EOR or multi-country payroll operations, including how payroll connects to contract terms, employment agreements and leave obligations where relevant, worker classification, and the client-employer-EOR relationship.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, prioritization, documentation, mentoring, and quality-review skills, with the ability to manage complex case queues and and explain payroll clearly.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset with strong attention to detail, including a track record of identifying process gaps and improving payroll accuracy, controls, and operational processes.

  • Hands-on experience with payroll systems and operational tools, including case-management, documentation, and workflow platforms. Familiarity with Salesforce, JIRA, and Confluence is a plus.
