What is an Employer of Record (EOR)?
An Employer of Record (EOR) is a service provider that allows companies to legally hire and work with employees in foreign countries without establishing their own legal entity in that country. This is made possible through a legal arrangement where the EOR establishes its own legal entity in the country and hires employees on behalf of the client company. This arrangement offers a viable solution for companies that wish to expand their global reach without investing in setting up a legal entity in every country where they operate.

About the Role

Rippling is a leading Employer of Record (EOR) provider, enabling businesses to hire globally while ensuring compliance with local labor laws and regulations. We are building our EOR Equity Program function from the ground up and are looking for a Global Equity Specialist who is excited to roll up their sleeves and create end-to-end processes for equity administration. This role is hands-on and will require owning both strategic development and execution of workflows.

We need an expert who can interpret legal and tax guidance, communicate it clearly to clients and internal teams, and lead the development of equity-related processes from start to finish. This role also requires strong project management skills to create systems, hold stakeholders accountable, and collaborate with product and engineering teams to build seamless workflows for clients.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in equity compensation, tax compliance, process improvement, and client support, with a focus on streamlining workflows and automating processes.

How This Role is Different

Unlike traditional equity advisory roles, this position focuses on ensuring compliance for equity issued to employees under the EOR model. Key distinctions include:

  • Ensuring Compliance: Rippling and clients must meet all reporting, withholding, and filing requirements for equity events. This role does not involve creating or managing client equity plans.
  • Advising Clients: Clients provide equity plan details, including grant values and types. The Specialist ensures local compliance steps are followed and communicates expectations clearly.
  • Managing EOR-Specific Nuances: Employees are legally employed by Rippling, introducing unique compliance considerations, such as differing tax treatments compared to direct employment.

Your role will involve navigating these complexities and providing clear, actionable guidance to ensure compliance and smooth execution of equity programs within the EOR framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Development & Compliance Execution
    • Develop and implement end-to-end equity administration processes, including data collection, tax withholding, payroll reporting, and compliance filings.
    • Ensure compliance with global tax regulations, reporting obligations, and regulatory requirements for equity transactions.
    • Develop clear workflows that outline each step and stakeholder responsibility.
    • Interpret and apply legal and tax guidance to equity-related events.
    • Partner with local tax professionals to manage necessary filings and reporting.
    • Identify and implement process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • EOR Client Equity Program Support
    • Clearly communicate client responsibilities regarding local tax and regulatory compliance.
    • Develop client-facing documentation, training materials, and collateral to guide clients through compliance requirements.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert to internal teams and clients on EOR-specific equity administration nuances, including country-specific requirements for equity offerings and taxable events.
    • Respond to client inquiries with clear, concise guidance on timelines, information requirements, and compliance obligations.
    • Ensure timely reporting, tax withholding, and remittance for EOR employees in compliance with local tax authorities.
    • Develop project plans, timelines, and SOPs to ensure all reporting obligations and filing deadlines are met.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Shape the product roadmap on equity-related topics in partnership with the product and engineering teams (e.g. designing workflows that simplify equity compliance tasks for clients)
    • Define data collection requirements, tooltips, and automation features to improve the client experience.
    • Collaborate with payroll, tax, legal, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution of equity-related tasks.
  • Project Management & Continuous Improvement
    • Track and document current capabilities, identifying areas requiring additional enablement or support.
    • Implement process improvements and advocate for automation to optimize workflows.
    • Establish clear accountability and timelines for stakeholders to meet compliance deadlines.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 6-8+ years of experience in equity compensation administration, tax compliance, or a related role.
  • Familiarity with global equity reporting requirements and tax laws across multiple countries.
  • Strong understanding of equity types (NSOs, RSUs, etc.) and their global tax and compliance implications.
  • Proven ability to interpret legal and tax guidance and communicate it clearly to non-experts.
  • Demonstrated success in building and managing processes from the ground up.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to set priorities, track progress, and hold stakeholders accountable.
  • Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams to create user-friendly workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and a client-focused mindset, with the ability to convey complex topics clearly.
