About the Role

We are looking for a highly-motivated, business-minded attorney to join the Legal & Compliance team as Data Products & Privacy Counsel. In this role, you will serve as a core legal partner to Product, Engineering, Data, Security, and GTM teams, advising on the design, launch, and scaling of data-driven and AI-enabled features across Rippling’s platform.

You will provide risk-based, pragmatic guidance on global privacy and data protection requirements as they apply to product development, analytics, automation, and emerging AI use cases. You will translate complex regulatory frameworks into actionable product requirements and scalable internal processes, enabling innovation while appropriately managing legal and regulatory risk.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, exercises strong judgment in ambiguous situations, and enjoys building structured, repeatable frameworks that support rapid product growth.

You Will:

  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to embed privacy-by-design into new and existing features
  • Advise on global privacy laws and regulatory developments (e.g., GDPR, CPRA, and related frameworks) as they impact product functionality and data use
  • Counsel on AI-enabled and automated decision-making features, including data inputs, outputs, training considerations, and governance controls
  • Draft and negotiate data protection terms, including DPAs, AI-related provisions, and product-specific contractual commitments
  • Conduct privacy risk assessments for new product launches and significant feature updates
  • Support incident response and internal investigations involving product or data risks
  • Build scalable playbooks, review processes, and documentation frameworks to improve efficiency and consistency across the privacy function
  • Monitor regulatory developments and translate evolving requirements into forward-looking product strategy

You Have:

  • 3+ years of legal experience including privacy/data protection experience
  • Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, solution-oriented ethos, and ready to roll up your sleeves
  • Excellent drafting and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to break down complex legal jargon into easy-to-understand and practical advice
  • Passion for efficient processes
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • A team player who works cross-functionally and with a variety of stakeholders cooperatively and efficiently
  • Sense of humor
