About The Role


Rippling is rapidly expanding its global HR and payroll software product and services to serve the needs of employees and employers all over the world. We're looking for an experienced Compliance partner to join Rippling’s Global Compliance and Payroll Operations team. 


The Global Compliance partner will own all payroll and tax compliance requirements for a specific country and partner closely with the R&D team to translate compliance requirements into software. Country-level compliance partners should have comprehensive first hand knowledge across pay rules, tax calculation structure, local tax filing requirements, time off / leave requirements, as well as exposure to best-in-class payroll software products. You will work hand-in-hand with Rippling’s Product team to review existing product behavior and proactively define requirements for upcoming changes. 


This is an exciting role that requires significant cross-departmental engagement across Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Sales, and CX, along with engagement with third party advisors and regulatory bodies. It is a partnership role that will have a significant impact on the product and customer experience. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive payroll compliance for your assigned country, ensuring Rippling’s payroll product is compliant, scalable, and accurate from end to end.
  • Define local payroll and tax compliance requirements, including pay rules, tax structures, filing obligations, and leave mandates, to build a compliant payroll software experience.
  • Leverage your personal expertise, regulatory knowledge, and third-party partnerships to identify the right compliance approach for Rippling and its customers.
  • Translate complex compliance rules into clear, actionable product requirements in collaboration with Product and Engineering teams.
  • Lead the full compliance development lifecycle, including research, prioritization, specification writing, testing, QA, and ongoing audits.
  • Participate in early product testing, ensuring that system inputs and outputs meet accuracy and compliance standards.
  • Provide strategic input to help Rippling prioritize development resources by identifying:
    • Which compliance features are mandatory
    • Which scenarios can be handled as one-offs or manually
    • Which cases are rare and not worth building for
  • Operate effectively in high-ambiguity, fast-paced environments, delivering quality results on short timelines.
  • Proactively monitor regulatory updates, ensuring timely adaptation of Rippling’s product to new or evolving requirements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll operations, compliance; 10+ years of experience in Payroll in Spain.
  • Strong grasp of:
    • Taxation rules (across employment types: salaried, hourly, contractor)
    • Payroll deductions (pensions, savings, pre/post-tax treatment)
    • Employer obligations (e.g., payroll tax, workers’ compensation)
    • Payroll software certification or registration requirements (if applicable)
    • Ability to interpret and monitor legislation changes and translate them into actionable technical requirements
  • Ability to interface effectively with Product, Engineering, Legal, Finance, and HR stakeholders
  • Strong project management and organizational skills: high attention to detail with excellent work product, time management, and project execution
  • Proven track record of success managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Stellar communication and presentation skills; the ability to simplify complex concepts for any audience
  • Preferred, but not required: CPA, NPI Certification or country-equivalent credential
  • Auditing and reconciliation skills with working knowledge of Google Sheets, including formulas and related features.
  • Experience with Payroll and Compliance in other EU countries would be an advantage (Portugal, Poland, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway)
  • Fluent English required
