Senior Frontend Engineer - Web Infra

About Rippling

Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.

Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.

Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.8B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.

We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.

About the Team

The Web Infrastructure team builds and maintains the foundational frontend systems that power how nearly 1,000 engineers across 50+ product teams at Rippling write, build, and ship code, from local development and the core CLI to developer tooling and deployment strategies. Our work is upstream of everything; when we improve something, every team ships faster.

What You Will Do

  • Own and deliver key workstreams in transitioning Rippling's frontend from a tightly coupled monolith to a federated architecture that enables product teams to build, test, and ship independently, without compromising the unified customer experience.
  • Evolve and maintain Rippling's core web CLI and build infrastructure, driving measurable improvements to build reliability, local development performance, and developer ergonomics.
  • Optimize build efficiency and artifact delivery across local, CI, staging, and production environments — using telemetry, baselines, and data to systematically eliminate bottlenecks and regressions.
  • Build and ship internal frontend tooling and libraries that meaningfully improve engineering velocity, taking full ownership from technical design through rollout and adoption by product teams.
  • Serve as the go-to expert on frontend build systems, establish best practices with product teams, and raise the technical bar through mentoring and hands-on code reviews.
  • Build infrastructure that enables AI agents and engineers to author, validate, and ship production-quality code more reliably — making AI a first-class participant in Rippling's frontend development workflow.
  • Take operational ownership of the team's systems — participating in on-call rotations, driving incident resolution, and ensuring the reliability and health of the build infrastructure in production.

What You Will Need

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on frontend workflows, build systems, or developer tooling in a large-scale production environment.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ESNext), TypeScript, and Node.js, with practical experience building CLI tools, build scripts, and developer-facing tooling in a production environment.
  • Working knowledge of modern bundlers (Webpack, Vite, or equivalent), with experience in areas such as Module Federation, code splitting, and build performance optimization.
  • Experience instrumenting build telemetry — defining performance baselines, surfacing regressions, and using data to prioritize infrastructure improvements.
  • Familiarity with large-scale frontend monorepo architectures and the build and dependency challenges they present.
  • Strong collaborator who communicates clearly, balances platform needs with product team flexibility, and can drive alignment across a large engineering organization.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and high ownership; self-directed, adaptable, and able to drive work to completion.
  • Hands-on experience building or designing infrastructure that supports AI-assisted development workflows — including tooling that enables AI agents to author, validate, and ship production-quality code reliably at scale.
