Senior Engineering Manager

About Rippling

Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.

Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.

Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.

The opportunity

Rippling is building one of the most ambitious SaaS platforms in the world, spanning HR, Finance, and IT. As we scale across 30+ products and hundreds of engineers, the quality of our UI – its performance, consistency, and developer velocity directly impacts customer experience and business growth.

The UI Platform team is responsible for building the shared foundations that power every Rippling product – design systems, performance, infrastructure, and application architecture.

We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager (M8) to lead the Web Platform team This team sits at the heart of the company. Every product, every page, and every user interaction depends on the systems you will own. You’ll lead a high-impact organization responsible for ensuring that:

Products are fast by default

Experiences are consistent by design

Engineers can build and ship with confidence at scale

Why this role matters

As Rippling scales, excellence cannot be left to individual teams, it must be encoded into the platform. This role will define how:

5,000+ grid-powered pages are built and evolve (Supergrid)

Engineers leverage AI-native development workflows (Project Anvil)

A single design system powers 30+ products with consistency and speed

You will shape the future of Rippling’s UI platform in an agentic world, where systems, not individuals, drive quality, consistency, and velocity.

What you’ll own

1. Platform strategy & product mindset

Own the Web Platform charter spanning performance, design system and patterns

Treat the platform as a product, drive adoption, usability, and developer experience

Define and execute the roadmap across critical initiatives.

Drive adoption of configuration-driven systems to replace bespoke implementations

2. Execution & delivery

Drive end-to-end execution across multiple high-impact platform initiatives

Own roadmaps, prioritization, and delivery milestones

Balance platform investments vs product needs, making pragmatic trade-offs

Ensure consistent, high-quality execution across teams

3. Performance as a first-class primitive

Define and enforce performance SLAs and budgets across all web surfaces

Build tooling, observability, and automated guardrails to prevent regressions

Make performance a default property of the system, not an afterthought

4. People & org leadership

Build, lead, and scale a high-performing team of engineers

Set a high bar for ownership, execution, and technical excellence

Mentor senior engineers, building a strong leadership bench

Create a culture of accountability, speed, and craftsmanship

Partner with Product, Design, Infra, and Platform teams across geographies

What success looks like

Performance by default: All web experiences meet SLAs, with regressions proactively prevented

Consistency at scale: UI patterns behave predictably across all products

Platform adoption: Teams default to platform primitives instead of building their own

Execution excellence: Complex, multi-team initiatives are delivered reliably and on time

Strong team: A high-performing org with strong technical leaders and clear ownership

What we’re looking for

8+ years of experience building and scaling large systems

4+ years of engineering management experience, including leading senior engineers or managers

Proven experience leading platform teams used by multiple product teams

Strong technical foundation in backend / full-stack

Track record of driving execution across complex, cross-team initiatives

Experience building high-performing teams and mentoring teams

Ability to operate at org-level scope, influencing without authority

Strong product mindset with focus on developer experience and adoption

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
