Director, Legal and Strategy

About Ritual

Ritual is a personal health brand that is raising the bar for daily wellness. Known for our best-selling, clinically backed prenatal, we create science-backed supplements with transparency at their core. We believe women deserve products they can trust, backed by real evidence—not just promises.

We started by reinventing the multivitamin with the first visible supply chain of its kind. Today, we’re expanding into new categories with the same high standards that built our reputation. Hundreds of thousands trust Ritual, and we’re growing fast.

Our team of 120+ scientists, creatives, and skeptics is raising the bar for women’s health. We’re venture-backed, based in sunny Los Angeles, and always looking for people ready to challenge the industry—and do the best work of their careers.

About the role

The Director, Legal & Strategy serves as both a trusted legal advisor and strategic business partner across key functions at Ritual. This is a unique role spanning People, Legal, and Brand in a growing mission-driven life-sciences product organization, bridging legal compliance, strategic risk management, organizational strategy and operational enablement. The ideal candidate is curious, creative, analytical and a systems thinker – someone who thrives on variety and can connect seemingly disparate pieces of information into a strong strategic recommendation that drives business results and mission alignment simultaneously.

From assessing talent frameworks, to reviewing partnership agreements and supplier contracts, to advising on product claims, to supporting business transformation efforts, and more, this role will have near and long-term impact to Ritual’s business results, employee experience and future trajectory.

What you'll do

Legal Advisory & Strategic Risk Management

  • Serve as primary in-house counsel for general corporate matters, employment law, product claims, marketing compliance, and partnerships—providing practical, day-to-day guidance and engaging outside counsel for high-risk or specialized issues.
  • Lead contract review and negotiation across departments, including vendor agreements, employment contracts, and partnership terms.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging legislation and policy shifts across wellness, consumer goods, labor law, privacy, and advertising—and translate those into proactive legal and business strategies.
  • Translate complex legal guidance into actionable insights that inform senior leadership’s ability to make sound and timely decisions across the business.
  • Build scalable legal frameworks that empower fast, compliant decision-making across teams, embedding legal considerations early in the decision-making process to reduce friction and support faster execution.
  • Continuously assess and evolve legal processes to be efficient, user-friendly and enabling - balancing empowering the team with appropriate risk oversight.

People Strategy & Business Transformation

  • Assess and advise on HR practices —including hiring, compensation, talent management, and remote work —working with the People team to ensure practices and programs are legally compliant, equitable, inclusive and scalable.
  • Own and maintain Ritual’s employee handbook and internal workforce policies across full-time, part-time, and outsourced labor, both domestically and internationally.
  • Advise and directly support employee relations investigations and sensitive team member issues in partnership with the People team, as needed, with discretion and legal integrity, while mitigating risk and reinforcing Ritual’s values.
  • Partner with leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and strategic transformation initiatives.
  • Support change enablement by advising on the rollout of new policies, structures, and systems, and assessing their downstream impact on people, processes, and compliance.
  • Lead legal and risk input on business model shifts such as geographic expansion and new partner engagements.
  • Use data and organizational insights to inform leaders on workforce trends, policy effectiveness, and areas of legal exposure.

Who you are

  • Strong communicator and cross-functional partner, known for translating complexity into clarity and enabling others to make smart, aligned decisions.
  • Curious, resilient, and pragmatic, with a clear understanding of how the legal function and strategic risk management enable a mission-driven, results-focused company.
  • Highly credible and approachable, with a proven ability to build trust and influence across all levels in a remote-first organization.
  • An inspiring leader and thought partner —the go-to person for guidance and perspective, known for developing and motivating others.
  • A strategist and an executor with high standards of excellence and attention to detail.
  • Deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as essential pillars of a high-performing culture.
