About the role
Schell & Hogan, LLP is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our team. The Tax Manager will be responsible for producing high quality, timely client deliverables. They will oversee all tasks related to tax accounting, planning, and compliance, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for small businesses and individuals.
- Conduct comprehensive tax research and stay updated on tax laws and regulations across multiple states.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize tax obligations and ensure compliance with tax laws.
- Provide guidance and support to clients on tax-related issues, including small business tax strategies.
- Manage and coordinate tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Mentor and develop junior staff, providing training and professional development opportunities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience in tax management; a focus on small businesses and individuals preferred.
- Experience in conducting tax research across multiple states.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Exceptional client service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
