Work Hours: 7-8 hrs/week

Summary

The WS Youth band leader serves as a musical director, teaching a team of youth musicians to lead the youth group in Friday night worship. This band leader gathers the necessary songs and people during the week, sets up, tears down, and stores the sound equipment, and leads rehearsals to ensure that the worship music is vibrant and students learn how to lead. Total hours are expected to be seven to eight (7-8) hours per week that WS Youth meets from September through mid-June.

Tasks

Friday - roughly 5 hours

  • Prepare binders (physical charts). Only new charts need to be printed, or damaged ones
  • Audio equipment set-up - setting up sound board, running wires, and testing equipment.
  • Introducing new worship leaders to the team - shadowing and joining the team officially 
  • Teaching youth leaders in the worship team to be empowered to lead
  • Assisting or leading worship team rehearsals
  • Audio equipment tear-down
  • Manage audio equipment and its storage/maintenance

Weekday prep - roughly 2 hours

  • Song choice and scripture for Call to Worship in Planning Center 
  • Create new song charts if needed (Music Director can help)
  • Practice the songs at home

Qualifications

  • Aligned with the core theological principles of Redeemer West Side
  • Undergraduate degree preferred or in process
  • Energetic, fun, outgoing, and able to teach youth
  • Training in music and experience performing and leading worship teams
  • Training and experience in live audio set-up, running analog sound boards, and the micing of a variety of instruments, including strings, percussion, and choirs.
  • Knowledge of proper gear maintenance and preservation techniques
  • Familiarity with the Nashville Number chord system
  • Experience with PA systems preferred.
  • Strong gathering ability to take the initiative to recruit youth worship leaders for the team
  • Dependable to prepare and be present on Friday nights
  • Independent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use Google Workspace, messaging, and project software
  • Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor and West Side Youth Team
  • Agreement with Redeemer West Side safety policies for youth, including background checks
