We’re looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead our talented small global development team, own the technical direction of our new secure, scalable platform and two legacy systems while shaping product strategy and execution.

This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone who thrives in a scrappy, high-impact environment where they are both a strategic leader and an active contributor. With no dedicated product function, this person will drive product strategy, ensuring engineering efforts align with business needs. The team is distributed across the United States and Australia, requiring strong cross-time-zone collaboration. This role also plays a key part in ensuring secure development practices, compliance with industry standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2), and overall platform security.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Execution

• Lead and mentor a globally distributed engineering team, fostering a culture of ownership and accountability.
• Define and drive the technical and product vision to align with business objectives.
• Operate with a hands-on approach, providing technical guidance, reviewing code, and solving complex problems alongside the team.
• Establish efficient development processes to balance rapid iteration with long-term technical sustainability.
• Work closely with leadership to translate company goals into actionable engineering and product strategies.

Product Strategy & Development

• Own product strategy, partnering with sales, customer success, and leadership to identify and prioritize the most impactful problems to solve.
• Maintain a deep understanding of customer needs and business objectives to guide engineering decisions.
• Define and refine the product roadmap, balancing customer impact, feasibility, and business needs.
• Drive cross-functional alignment to ensure technical decisions support overall company objectives.

Engineering Execution & Security

• Ensure best practices in scalability, security, and maintainability of the software platform.
• Lead security and compliance efforts, embedding secure development practices and ensuring adherence to industry standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2, data protection regulations).
• Balance speed of delivery with technical debt management and long-term sustainability.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring high system reliability and performance.

Collaboration & Communication

• Act as a bridge between engineering, sales, customer success, and leadership, ensuring alignment on priorities and execution.
• Clearly communicate technical trade-offs, product priorities, and delivery timelines across teams.
• Foster a culture of transparency, adaptability, and shared ownership in a distributed team environment.

About You

• Experienced leading engineering teams in a fast-paced SaaS environment, ideally remote and geographically dispersed
• A strong technical background with hands-on software development experience, in both web and mobile based application platforms, and scalable cloud architectures.
• A proven ability to own and drive product strategy in collaboration with business stakeholders.
• Comfortable operating without a traditional product function—able to identify customer needs and translate them into engineering priorities.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a distributed, cross-time-zone environment.
• Deep understanding of software security, compliance, and secure development best practices (ISO 27001, SOC 2, data protection).
• A "roll-up-your-sleeves" mentality—excited to dive into technical work, problem-solving, and execution rather than just directing others.
• Familiarity with safety, compliance, or risk management software is highly desirable, but not essential.
