Overview

The Charge Nurse - Infusion provides clinical leadership and operational oversight of Sarasota Arthritis Center’s Infusion Suites across all locations. This role works directly within the infusion suite while overseeing infusion scheduling, patient prescreening processes, and ensuring safe, efficient clinical workflows. The Charge Nurse serves as the primary clinical resource for Infusion Registered Nurses, providing training, retraining, and ongoing clinical support while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and infusion care.

This position rotates between Sarasota Arthritis Center locations (typically one day per location) with an additional flexible workday based on operational needs. The Charge Nurse collaborates closely with providers, Patient Navigators, Prior Authorization teams, and infusion staff to ensure patients receive timely and clinically appropriate infusion therapy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and oversight of the Infusion Suite operations across Sarasota Arthritis Center locations.
  • Work directly in the infusion suite providing patient care while serving as the clinical lead for infusion staff.
  • Oversee infusion scheduling to ensure safe patient volume, appropriate chair utilization, and efficient workflow.
  • Review infusion patient prescreening to ensure required labs, documentation, and safety criteria are met prior to treatment.
  • Monitor infusion suite clinical workflow and ensure adherence to established infusion protocols and safety standards.
  • Serve as the clinical escalation point for infusion-related questions, concerns, or adverse patient reactions.
  • Train and onboard new Infusion Registered Nurses on infusion protocols, medications, and suite workflows.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, retraining, and competency reinforcement for infusion staff as needed.
  • Ensure infusion medications are administered in accordance with provider orders, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with providers, APRNs, and clinical leadership regarding infusion treatment plans and patient care concerns.
  • Work closely with Prior Authorization and Patient Navigation teams to support timely infusion scheduling and patient readiness.
  • Assist in maintaining infusion protocols, clinical guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support compliance with OSHA, infection control, medication administration, and emergency response protocols.
  • Monitor infusion suite supplies, emergency medications, and equipment readiness.
  • Assist leadership with identifying workflow improvements to enhance infusion patient throughput and safety.

 Qualifications

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida (required).
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years of nursing experience with infusion experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in specialty infusion settings such as rheumatology, oncology, gastroenterology, or biologic therapy preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, training, or charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond to infusion reactions or medical emergencies.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple clinical locations as needed.
