Director of Engineering
Scentbird is seeking an exceptional addition to our engineering team. We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to manage a distributed development team. The responsibilities of a Director of Engineering include leading a large team of engineers, collaborating with product managers, and improving company policies and standards.
To be successful as a Director of Engineering, you should have prior organizational leadership experience, be able to collaborate with team members, ensure that your team(s) successfully deliver on initiatives, and be a strategic problem-solver. Ultimately, a top-notch Director of Engineering should demonstrate excellent communication skills, an ability to connect with other engineers and developers, and have a solid foundation in software design.

This role reports to the CTO.
As a Director of Engineering, you will lead and drive high-performing engineering teams to deliver on our product roadmap initiatives within anticipated timeframes.
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
Leading distributed teams of 40+ engineers across different disciplines including mobile development and web development
Establishing engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes to drive excellence across the organization.
Leading critical decisions regarding the architecture and implementation of scalable, high-quality engineering solutions.
Promoting a rigorous approach to software development, testing, and deployment to ensure quality and reliability.
Implementing robust processes to track and report key metrics such as service-level agreements (SLAs), performance, quality, and regular updates to stakeholders.
Building a culture of accountability for meeting performance and quality targets, ensuring timely delivery and continuous improvement.
Demonstrating effective communication and collaboration across all engineering teams, promoting knowledge sharing.
Acting as a liaison and key communicator between engineering and other departments including product, marketing, and customer support ensuring alignment and collaboration.
Ensuring timely delivery of projects while balancing short-term needs and long-term goals.
Collaborating with HR and the CTO to identify hiring needs and recruit top engineering talent.
What We’ll Love About You:
Exceptional communication skills with experience communicating with diverse, international teams.
Significant experience working in late-stage startups (or similar), managing conservative budgets, and meeting aggressive revenue targets.
Prior experience in B2C organizations with an emphasis on scalable product development for consumers.
What You’ll Need to Have:
5+ years of experience leading distributed/overseas engineering teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
Prior experience leading teams of least 40+ engineers.
8+ years of hands-on experience with Java, React, Kubernetes, and AWS (or equivalent technologies).
Extensive experience with Kanban, Scrum, or other agile methodologies.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Proficiency in Russian is a plus.
