Role Overview

We’re looking for an Accounting Manager to own and scale our accounting function from the ground up. This is an individual contributor role with a clear and intentional track to management based on performance and business growth.

Today, we partner with an external accounting firm. This role will lead the transition of accounting operations in house — building scalable systems, owning the close process, and serving as the key contact for our annual audit. You’ll lay the foundation for a high-performing finance function and have the opportunity to grow into a team leadership role over time.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Own the full monthly close process
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
  • Manage accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, and other key accounting entries
  • Oversee AP processing in Ramp: vendor bills, payment rules, approvals, credit cards
  • Ensure accurate GL coding and department tagging for all spend
  • Oversee customer invoicing and collections, maintaining and following up on aging reports
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
  • Reconcile deferred revenue schedules and subscription billing data
  • Record and reconcile payroll journal entries, including taxes and benefits
  • Maintain payroll related accruals (e.g. bonuses, PTO, commissions)
  • Prepare internal financial reports and dashboards for leadership
  • Analyze results, investigate variances, and provide commentary on findings
  • Support board and investor reporting with clean, audit ready data.

Audit & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls and approval workflows
  • Manage sales tax compliance, filings, and nexus tracking using Avalara
  • Support external tax preparers and auditors
  • Serve as the lead on our annual financial audit, coordinating with external auditors

Systems & Scaling

  • Administer and improve accounting systems (QuickBooks, Ramp, Chargebee, Avalara)
  • Drive the transition of accounting functions from a third-party firm to internal function
  • Build repeatable processes for billing, reporting, and internal controls

Strategic Impact

  • Partner with FP&A to support business operations, budgeting, and planning
  • Identify opportunities to use automation and AI tools to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Help define future team structure and hiring roadmap as the company scales

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, ideally in SaaS or a high-growth tech environment
  • Proven experience owning key accounting processes and supporting financial audits
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • QuickBooks Online, Netsuite a plus (required)
    • Ramp - corporate cards & bill pay (preferred)
    • Avalara - sales tax automation (preferred)
    • Chargebee (preferred)
  • Comfortable working independently and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and a deep sense of ownership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Who You Are

  • Highly Driven & Competitive: You thrive on excellence and are willing to go the extra mile to win but you also know how to stay efficient and focused on what matters most
  • AI-First Operator: You’re proactive in using AI and automation to eliminate inefficiencies, improve accuracy, and move faster
  • Builder’s Mindset: You don’t just maintain processes, you look for ways to improve, streamline, and scale them
  • Team-Oriented: You’re eager to contribute individually today, and lead others tomorrow
