About the role

The Grinder Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining tub and horizontal grinders used in the Compost operation. The operator must possess technical skills to handle heavy equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations. The role requires physical stamina, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work effectively as part of a team as well as individually. This is a 2nd shift position with work hours 4pm-1am.

What you'll do

  • Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, cranes, and other specialized equipment to perform assigned tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Grinder Operation:  Must have specific experience with industrial size grinders.   Horizontal grinder experience preferred; tub grinder experience acceptable.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), conducting pre-operation inspections, and following established safety procedures and protocols.
  • Maintenance and Inspections: Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning, report any issues or malfunctions promptly, and coordinate with maintenance personnel for repairs and servicing.  Must be able to handle routine maintenance specific to industrial grinders – changing teeth, removing buildup, clearing tracks, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Material Handling: Use heavy equipment to move, load, unload, and transport various materials such as soil, rocks, debris, equipment, and other construction or mining materials as required.
  • Site Preparation: Clear and level land, and perform grading operations to prepare sites for grinding.
  • Project Support: Collaborate with other team members, including construction crews, supervisors, engineers, and surveyors, to support project requirements, coordinate tasks, and contribute to project completion within set deadlines.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, conduct pre-shift inspections, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and any incidents or accidents, as required by company policies and regulations.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with team members and supervisors, following instructions, providing status updates, and reporting any issues or concerns related to equipment operation or site conditions.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding equipment operation, environmental standards, and occupational health and safety.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Valid heavy equipment operator's license or certification.
  • Proven experience operating various heavy equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders
  • Proven experience operating and maintaining industrial size grinders
  • Solid understanding of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operation.
  • Ability to work after hours with minimal oversight
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and other technical documents.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Physical stamina and fitness to withstand long hours of sitting, standing, and operating heavy machinery.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.

The pay range for this role is:

23 - 27 USD per hour (Silver Creek Materials)
